An unusual and exquisite pair of large wooden female twins, Nigeria, Yoruba, 19th. cent.

The lovely fine set with large headdresses, and exceptional facial features including large teeth and pubic hair finely outlined! Both richly adorned with jewelry incl. silverish metal bangles and Kauri shells. Note the preserved body pigments, that is often washed off on older figures!

Found in the Philippines. Featuring a circular body, resting on a short straight foot and is decorated with a carved central floral spray, adorned with combed lines. The box is covered overall in a pale green celadon glaze, except for its base, which is left fully unglazed and partially burnt to red. Measurements: diameter (3.9"inches) across. Condition: in perfect condition. No repairs, UV light checked...

This rare juglet type is typical of the form that was popular in Judea during the Iron Age II Period (circa 1000 - 586 B.C.). Nice design and beautiful coloring. This jug measures 3.5" tall. For comparable, see Ruth Amiran "Ancient Pottery of the Holy Land", (#262-264). Condition: Pristine, choice and intact with good adhesions and evidence of age remaining. A Chinese, yellow glazed, caparisoned horse; C6-7th AD, Sui to early Tang dynasty. A lively figure of a prancing horse. Dimensions; 18cm tall, 20cm long. Condition; please ask for additional photos to satisfy yourself as to condition. The figure has had broken and restored legs, with some associated over-painting. It is in a restored, but very presentable condition, with age realted wear.
