This pottery model of a standing dog was made during the Eastern Han Dynasty (AD 25 - 220) and excavated from Sichuan province. It is made from a "heavily-potted" reddish-coloured pottery. The upper body has been coated with a thin green glaze that has mostly degraded although there is a run across the chest where the glaze is thicker and finely-crackled. This extraordinarily rare Costa Rican jade axe god is the finest I have ever seen. It is female which is very rarely seen. It is a whopping 8 1/2", the largest I have ever seen. It has an extremely detailed headdress carving with a beautiful septum on the back. It is made from fabulous translucent true jadeite. It is perfect in every way. You are considering a rare and beautiful Archaic Chinese Jade Scepter or Tablet, "Gui," dating to circa 2000BC.
