Chinese Ming Dynasty / Transitional Blue & White Porcelain Bowl

This small blue & white porcelain bowl, or dish, was made during the early to mid 17th Century. Although it is attractively decorated in underglaze blue, we are unsure what the unusual central design represents; our best guess is that it is the conch (a symbol of prosperous travels) together with the Shou character (meaning longevity). the glaze is crackled in places.

A nice lot of three choice condition bronze rings, two of a Roman type with high shoulders and another of the early Islamic period, c. 7th.-9th. cent. AD.

With animals carved into the bezels of the early rings.

19th century Chinese wooden brush rest carved in the form of a crouching dragon. Dense hardwood (must be wood species related to huanghuali), wonderful warm patina, old nicks, ink and water stains adding character to the piece. Clever functional design, very good object for scholar’s desk. Length 4 7/8 inches, height 1 5/16 inches.

Condition: Choice, original glaze, perhaps a chip restored, but difficult to spot.

Provenance: Important Danish-French Private collection, (aquired 1970- c. 2007) of Islamic pottery ware from the 9th.-12th. century. Comes with COA.

Tang terra cotta image of a lady in waiting or courtesan, with elegant chignon. Traces of original pigment. Miniatures are extremely rare. H: 10.2cm. Good condition- no damage or repair.

18th century small Indian bronze votive sculpture depicting Shridevi - a form of Lakshmi, the consort of Lord Vishnu. She is holding an open lotus in her left hand. Very nice casting - see her graciously bent figure, beautiful warm brown patina, high devotional wear with traces of sandalwood powder in crevices, overall in great condition for a votive piece. Height 2 3/8 inches.

An attractive larger pottery flute with human bust of a female holding hans to her breasts.

Size: 70 mm. tall and 76 mm. deep.

Condition: Intact with minor old lossses.

Provenance: Inger and Ebbe Gotzche Frederiksen, Espergærde, Denmark. The couple lived years in South America, in Ecuador in 1958, Columbia from 1964-1966 and later in 1976 in Peru and Bolivia, and in all of those places they bought the collection...

Finely cast small statue of Hindu Goddess Annapurna, sitting cross-legged on an elevated throne, holding the ritual spoon in both hands. Bronze, with reddish and green patina. India, 17th century, maybe earlier. Height: 4.3 cm. Abrasion due to great age, otherwise good condition.

Fine stamp seal made in white stone, South Mesopotamia, Late Uruk / Jemdet nasr period, 3300-2900 BC.

Hemispheric seal carved with dots in the drill style.

17th century small Chinese white stoneware jar with underglaze blue painting. The jar comes from an old Japanese collection, this type of stoneware is known as Swatow ware, but more correctly named as Zhangzhou ware from Fujian province. Beautiful glaze with fine crackle, central register with excellent free painting of blooming flowers in reserves with stylized waves in between. A stunning American brilliant cut glass carafe or water bottle featuring and an unusual shaped body. It is in excellent condition measuring 8" high and 7.5" diameter. This is a wonderful piece for the collector and would also be a great wedding gift.

A Chinese seal, reddish-brown soapstone, all around with engraved little landscapes and a coiling snake on top. Chinese probably auspicious characters to one side. The name of the owner, Bettina, is carved both in Chinese and Latin lettering. Height "3 1/3/ 8.5 cm. Condition: fine.
