Fine Pair of Chinese Tang Dynasty Painted Pottery Figures with Oxford TL Test

These fine pair of pottery figures, one male, one female, was made during the Tang Dynasty (AD 618 - 906). They are made from quite a high-fired creamy-coloured pottery. They are very finely modelled: note the detail of the clothing, hairstyle and facial features. The figures stand side by side, upright, in respectful poses each with their hands held together across their stomachs...

Unusual circular russet iron jingasa, with 16 triangular riveted plates. The iron is flattened to a thin gauge for lightweight comfort. It sports a finial top and a hand mount ring to a silk cord decoration...

Midsize storage jar, tsubo. Greyish brown stoneware, with the typical white stone inclusions, partially bursting out through the surface. The ashes in the wood burning kiln settled during the firing onto the surface of the pot and melted, creating the beautiful brownish yellow ash glaze. This is a natural process that cannot be controlled by the potter beyond the decision of placement within the kiln...

Fairly large shrine with three carved figures: Shichimen Daimyojin, Kishimojin and the patriarch of the Nichiren sect, Nichiren. All are positioned on a rectangular base. Although all three can be connected with the Nichiren sect, the formation is a rather unusual one, leading to the assumption that the pieces were carved to the specific order of someone, for a very specific reason. The crest on the outside of the zushi (tachibana branch in well) hints in the same direction...

A rare Ewer pot in celadon tint was nicely decorated with Phoenix head.
It was well preserved with only one minute restoration at the tip of the mouth.

Japanese Antique small and charming censer. The lid is pierced for incense smoke and the finial handle is in the form of a mouse. The round-form body of the censer has three small handles and is decorated with raised medallion reserves each with a different animal: rabbit, ox and tiger.

A Chinese Celadon Glazed Stem-Cup. Circa, 14th Century, Yuan Dynasty. Found in the Philippines. Featuring rounded walls, rising to a slightly everted rim and is supported by a long waisted foot. A beautiful Tang dynasty changsa stoneware bowl with an abstract plant/weed motive, with long thin leaves all painted in green and iron brown colour. A very artistic, creative and free hand drawing in an abstarct form. The changsa bowl stand on a short footrim with a recess base. The glaze stop about three quarter way down, exposing the light pinkish buff clay. A must have piece for the discerning collector...

Antique wooden carving of a Chinese Lohan, which in the Buddhist religion is a state of enlightenment right before becoming a Bodhisattva. The Lohan is shown pulling open his robe to reveal a small child strapped around the front of his chest.
