19th century Chinese rock crystal seal in a shape of a tall and narrow mountain peak characteristic of Southern China. Very beautiful stone with few natural cloudy areas by the bottom, excellent quality carving of 4 sunken characters on the bottom, very fine polish to the surface. Traces of red seal paste in the grooves, imprint of the seal is shown on Enlargement 1. Several tiny nicks to edges as to be expected on an old piece. Very good object for scholar’s table. Height 1 3/4 inches.

An interesting pair of ancient Greek wheel-made pottery lamps in orange clay, dating to 4th-1st cent AD.

Both lamps with a central, conical tube. The concave rim turned inwards and rounded short nozzles with large wick holes. Old collection tags on both pieces

Size: 5 & 6 cm across at the nozzle.

Condition: Choice and intact lamps with wear for type and age.

A fine very large gable seal carved in white stone with smaller and larger animal, Western Mesopotamia, 4th. mill. BC.

Size: 37 mm long and 27 mm wide, 11 mm thick.

Condition: VF, basically intact with minor wear to the edges.

A wonderful sturdy cloakpin of silver with the substantial finial in gold, Chimú-Inca period, ca. 12th.-15th. century AD.

Size 14,1 cm. and weighing 10 grams.

A massive sub-rectangular seal with high handle and perforation, in black large grained stone, Halaf period, 6th. millenium BC.

The seal is beautifully engraved with a leaf design with a central line and diagonal strokes off it.

A fine set of three bronze and copper daggers, East Caspian Sea area, 3rd.-2nd. mill. BC.

The set includes one extremely fine dagger of later fabric, probably 1200-800 BC with a long bend tang.

Size: 177 mm., 173 mm., and 147 mm.

Condition: Choice VF to Extremely fine, uncleaned with sandy deposits.

Late Meiji (1890s - 1910s) Japanese bamboo wrist rest used by painters and calligraphers, with low relief carving of a sparrow in flight, its wings spread wide. Beautiful subtle piece, superb quality carving, rich warm patina, in excellent condition. Wonderful object for a scholar’s desk. Size 6 1/4 x 1 3/4 inches.

A well made Keyaki wood sumitsubo. Used by carpenters to efficiently mark straight lines by snapping a silk string saturated with ink. The utilitarian purpose enhanced by the folk art attention to detail of this implement held symbolic of the trade. Meiji period. Good condition. Length, 8 inches

Chinese Song to possibly Yuan dynasty brown glazed stoneware jar with horizontal ribbed body moulded in high relief with a dragon chasing the pearl of wisdom. The glaze stops above the unglazed foot. 6 7/8” high. Circa 12th/13th century. Very good overall condition with a barely visible old break to the horns (see closeup image). The lighter areas on the surface of the glaze are burial encrustations...

An nice lot of three ancient Bronze daggers from Ancient Near East, early types of the 3rd.-early 2nd. mill. BC.

The lot consist of a larger dagger, 20,8 cm and two smaller ones - 13,6 & 11,3 cm. all different types, incl. a very early type of the 3rd. mill. BC

All three items come with nice patinas and in choice condition.

Spanish colonial era Santo infant child from the Philippines estimated to be 19th Century.

A fine Grecco -Persian bronze spearhead, later 1st mill BC.

The blade with slim shoulders and central midrib. The sharp edges of the blade slope into a long, folded conical socket with an opening at the back and a straight.

Size: 34,5 cm - socket is about 18 cm.

Condition: Choice - cleaned somewhat hard, but still with nice red and green patina, as shown on photos.

Though sourced from northern China, this antique powder flask is most likely Chinese ethnic minority from the southern regions. There are 3 flasks for carrying gun powder. Used rifle cartridges are used both as stoppers and bullets are held in the shaped spacers between the powder flasks. It was made by shaping and then sewing 2 pieces of heavy leather (probably elephant hide)together.

19th century Chinese miniature scholar’s rock in a shape of a dramatic mountain massif with foothills, several peaks and snow fields. The piece gives a very strong feeling of weathered rock shaped by water and time, and overpowering energy of the mountain range. Variegated gray with a hint of olive green Qilian limestone with natural fissures and white veins, very beautiful patina, well fitted hardwood stand. Excellent object for contemplation on scholar’s desk...

A beautiful late 19th C. Chinese thin wall famille rose porcelain vase with plum tree flower motif, in excellent condition. H:21cm $225

Rather unusual late 19th century Chinese scholar’s rock made out of a piece of amber. Did not photograph well. Wonderfully translucent when held against light, can be viewed from several sides and conveys a very good feeling of a weathered surface of a mountain. There is an internal energy in the piece - a combination of shape, texture and color of the material. Very nice rosewood fitted stand. Excellent object for scholar’s table. Height with stand 2 3/4 inches.

A large, highly decorative, antique Chinese wall vase which shows a jar, with a frontal clock and two rams heads, that is filled with lotus flowers, leafs, pods and buds. The vase and its contents are potted from non-porcelain pottery clay and fired at a low temperature. The front of the vase is colored with over-glaze enamels.
