This late 19th century Chinese Famille Rose leaf shape tile is 9 ¾” long, 8 ¼” on the widest part and a quarter of an inch thick. It depicts Emperor Wusu wearing armor and holding his hands in front of his chest. Aside from one small chip on the rim, it is in great condition.

An antique Japanese Kotansu (personal storage) chest made entirely of Kiri (Paulownia) wood. All original hand forged iron hardware including the slightly Gumbai style handles. Used for all purpose family storage of papers, letters and sundry articles, it works well in a contemporary home as a side chest or night stand.

Antique Tibetan damaru, double skull drum traditionally for tantric ceremonies and meditation. Made in the joining of a male and a female cranium inside of which is usually inscribed with the corresponding male or female mantra. In this case, the two sides are attached with ornate silver repouse bands of scrolling vines and Buddhist symbols. Antique Japanese round hibachi made of kiri (paulownia) wood and lacquered with highly raised maki-e design of irises and hydrangeas. Exuberant blossoms in gold and black lacquer with shell inlay. With a copper insert. This hibachi was originally used as a household brazier.

The whole body, except for the top, is carved in relief with lingzhi fungus of hardwood of rosewood family. The waist, the apron, and the connecting joints are also decorated. The legs are slight cabriole leg with block carved hoof feet.

Antique Japanese fine lacquered kogo box for holding incense. Comprised of 3 stacking compartments, the lower of which has a gilt copper lining. The overall shape is that of a textile knot (musubi) with ornate patterns in gold takamaki-e on black and nashiji lacquer. The sides of the box are further decorated with a landscape of trees on a rocky outcropping, a village of thatched roof huts, and low hills near a lake, all on a fine nashiji ground. Wonderful Japanese antique incense case, made of bamboo with very highly raised lacquer in the form of a blossoming wisteria branch, beautiful color and details including a tiny wasp, signed: Shizan, Edo/Meiji Period. 12 1/2" long x 2/3" wide.

These bowls with matching inset lids are crafted from turn wood, and are lacquered black and red in the folk art tradition. They are intended for everyday use for soup and rice. Each has a kanji character painted in red lacquer on the lid and centers of the base. There is minor lacquer flaking here and there and usual evidence of use, but overall the condition is good. The sizes, though similar, are not exactly the same...

A slightly larger than average pumpkin form Yixing teapot, with nice used patina, probably made in China during the 18th or 19th Century. This item does not carry a maker's mark. Condition - very good - there are light (production) firing cracks to the body (see enlargements 5 and 8) and there is a chip and some small firing cracks to the inside of the cover; no other damages and no restoration...

An antique Japanese low chest called Isho Tansu made of Kiri (Paulownia) wood. All original hand forged iron hardware including the Warabite handles. Added custom iron base to elevate chest for modern form and function. Constructed using straight dovetail joinery and hardened wooden nails.

Japanese dated Edo period rectangular form wood "senryo-bako" hinged coin box on two geta feet with cast iron hardware including edge brackets, hinges, handle, and front lockplate. A barely readable black ink inscription on the bottom dates the box to the first year of the Bunkiu era (1861). This late 19th or early 20th century hornbill casque with a carved ivory plaque of Guan Yin (Goddess of mercy) standing on cloud is 4 ½ inches high (with base is 5 ¾ inches), 7 ½ inches long and 3 inches on the widest part. It is in great condition.
