A pair of two different paintings depicting different views of people either engaged in different activities. One scene appears to show a soldier like figure coming back or meeting a lady and another scene is depicting a family at leisure. Particular elements have elements similar to Chinese theatrical costuming and designs. The techniques are more Western since these works were made in Guangzhou in the Canton concessions. Wonderful quality carving - see its right front paw lifting a straw rope that it is about to chew, its chubby body and perfectly rendered texture of woven straw of the sandal. 19th century Chinese soapstone seal of classic square section carved with raised characters. First catalogue photo includes the image of the printing surface flipped left to right to show what the imprint of the seal will look like. Beautiful buff to red to brown stone with attractive veining giving depth to the surface, old dried red seal paste in the grooves. Overall in good condition, nice scholar’s object. Height 1 1/8 inches, base 13/16 square.

A large silver tray of oval form with applied scrolling handles. The sloping sides of the salver with repousse decoration in the Turkish baroque style. Tughra and two other marks to either end of the tray, each handle with two hallmarks. Condition: traces of usage, the sides with two short cracks, one old repair with crack near the attachment of one handle (pic. 9). Dimension total: 41.5 cm long x 26.7 cm wide, weight: 760 g.

Early 19th C bronze Southeast Asian betel nut cutter in the anthropomorphic form of Garuda, a bird-like creature in Hindu, Buddhist and Jain mythology. Garuda is believed to be a powerful ever watchful protector with the ability to swiftly go anywhere. The blade is slightly bent from years of use, otherwise in very good condition, this cutter measures 6" long, 5" high, and 1.75 inches across the wings.
