Chinese pair of moon viewing chairs, made of huang-huali hardwood with dramatic grain. Carved in faux bamboo. Each chair handcrafted for a comfortable reclining position and matched with a slide out foot rest. The joints show sign of shrinkage and patina of its age and condition.

A large elaborate bronze cloak pin, cast via the lost wax (cire perdue) process with poppy flower shaped terminal.
Used to fasten clothes, in this case due to the unusually heavy fabric and decoration, likely leather for presentation use - perhaps for a very thick cape or leather armor. The lower terminal decorated with knobs and 3 spikes.

Late 18th, Early 19th Century Edo Period Japanese Wood Horse Sculpture in a galloping pose. The horse still has a good amount of its original colors and gold gilt. It would have been offered as a gift to a Shinto shrine from someone with the means to afford more than the usual horse plaque, but not quite the means to afford to give a real horse to the shrine, a gift only the most wealthy could afford to give. A wonderfully rendered sculpture and a special image for equestrian art collectors...
Fine Chinese antique hardwood corner chair, inlaid with mother of pearl with designs of flowers and flower baskets with birds and dragons. Beautifully carved, curved arms.

The plate is decorated in late Ming Kraak “fuyo-de” style with a pattern of alternating panels of flowers, Chrysanthemums and Camellias, with Precious objects, interspersed with pendant Lozenge motifs. The central mikomi framed by a narrow atypical floral band depicts an oversized figure holding a rod standing upon a bridge with two oxen set in a classic Chinese “sansui” landscape’...
There are two possibilities. Either this very nice Earthenware Jar with a molded - impressed decoration and glazed with an Sancai glaze is from the Tang Dynasty ( 618 - 906 ) and from Henan or Shaanxi ( Sancai). Or it is a piece from the Liao Dynasty ( 916 - 1125 ) Liaoning ( Sancai )...

18th century netsuke of a kneeling boy wearing checkered jacket and a theatrical mask of a demon with his hands by his ears intent on listening. Strong early piece with wonderful wear and fantastic honey colored patina on the back where netsuke was touching the silk of kimono. Great vicious mask, wonderful textile pattern (worn in the middle of the back). Old loss to the tips of his fingers on the right hand...
Chinese Ming Dynasty Blue & White Porcelain Dish with Fish (Ex. Grahame Clarke collection)
This porcelain dish was made during the 15th century. It has rounded sides and a "hole-bottom" base. It is decorated inside with, although rather indistinct, a "red biscuit" fish amongst water weeds that are in underglaze blue.
Diameter 11.5 cm. There are some crackles to the glaze and the glaze to the underside has an "orange peel" effect with some kiln grit embedded within the glaze...
Chinese Tang Dynasty Painted Pottery Horse (AD 618 - 906)
This attractive pottery model of a horse was made during the Tang Dynasty (AD 618 - 906). It is made from a buff-coloured pottery that has been "cold painted" in white and reddish-brown pigments. This horse is well-modelled and stands upright and alert.

Decorated with stylized panels revealing Foo dogs playing ball design on cherry blossoms background, on one side with an open-work of coin design.

This wonderful antique celadon suichu was made around the end of the 19th century during the Japanese Meiji Period...
This ancient Egyptian Scarab for Tuthmosis III is more than 3,000 years old. It's from the famous Mitry collection (see our Homepage). It is 9/16” long (14 mm) and made of steatite, an easy-to-carve stone that hardens when heated. Scarabs empowered life and resurrection and were often placed under mummy wrappings to protect the body and help it resurrect. This Scarab comes in a jewelry display cup.
