Chinese Western Han Dynasty Painted Pottery Cocoon Jar (206 BC - AD 8)

This pottery "cocoon" jar was made over 2,000 years ago during the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC - AD 8). It is made from a relatively highly-fired grey pottery and has been decorated by "cold painting" different coloured pigments in a design featuring cloud patterns within vertical bands.

A very interesting and uncleaned metal seal in bronze or a silver alloy, Mesopotamia, Uruk-Jemdet Nasr period, 4th.-3rd. mill. BC.

Finely engraved with dots in a symethric pattern.

Size: 19-20 mm. tall and 9 mm. wide.

Condition: Good Very fine or better...

Fine statue of Buddha, in monk's robes, standing on a circular base with a tenon beneath, his left hand holding the robe, his right arm alongside his leg. Bronze, with remnants of the original gilding. Nepal, 15th to 16th century, maybe earlier. Height: 8.3 cm. The statue is mounted on a plexi stand. Very good condition. NOTE: collected in situ in 1974.

From our Japanese Collection, a large and beautiful imari charger, Meiji Period (1868-1912), one of two similar pieces we have, of scalloped-edge form with a basket of flowering mums in the center medallion sitting upon a terrace enclosure, and with panels of prunus, chrysanthemums, and other flowering branches in the outer border, all vibrantly executed in traditional imari palette including iron-red, blue, orange, gilt and green...

Up for sale is a framed Chinese wall hanging with a total of 50 children playing, very intricate embroidery executed in Chinese weaving Kesi / Kossu with some painted details; very fine & intricate. Measurements : Frame 10 in x 28.5 in , weaving 4" x 20"; Excellent condition, vibrant colors.

Early 18th century tea bowl and saucer, decorated in "imari" style in under glaze blue and over glaze iron red, depicting four-clawed dragons amongst cloud scrolls in pursuit of flaming pearls. This item was made for export to Europe during the reign of the Yongzheng emperor (1723-1735). Condition - there is a 0.6 inch (1.5 cm) hair line running from the saucer dish rim (see enlargements 5 and 6); there is the usual rim fritting and there is wear to the over glaze gilding...

Chinese Tang dynasty figures with sancai glazed. 12.5 cm high. Conditions: several chips on the foot and body. No cracks or hairlines and free from restorations.

The face of this Japanese Boy's Day Doll, musha ningyo, would certainly scare away any demons...strands of his unkept hair tends to drift across the face, and his costume is elaborately detailed. Without the stand he is 11 inches tall...the stand adds another 2 inches to the height.

Condition excellant with the exception of a couple of small surface paint chips on face reveal white undercoat (clears shown in pictures)

Highly interesting stone seal carved in an extremely hard jade-like stone (probably nephrite), Anatolia, found at Mersin, c. 2nd.-1st. millenium BC.

Archais symethric grit pattern in the base, the seal itself of a monolithic shape that could look like an animal head. This is dated by Oberländer to the Pre-Historic period, but we believe it to be a later seal, due to the shape of the seal and the very hard stone used.

Naturalistically modelled, formed from individually cast, hammered and carved sections crafted to resemble the crustacean’s shell with well chiseled details, assembled with fully articulated joints to allow lifelike mobility; signed on the belly Myochin (明珍). With a wooden storage box.

A Rare Tang Dynasty White Glaze Xing Ware Bowl. High ping sound with finger tip.Dimension: Diameter 14.8cm Height 4.4cm. Condition: no chips, no cracks, no hairlines, free from restoration.

Antique Korean three section chest with beautiful inlay on black lacquer. The top section has three small drawers along the top, decorated with inlay in a geometric pattern. The cabinet doors are decorated inside with scenes of birds on branches. The other panels are decorated with landscapes, scenes of birds, and other animals. Choson period, circa 1900. It measures 20" deep 68" tall 40.25" wide.

A 3.5" vase of midnight blue depicting a pair of songbirds perched upon a branch of flowering prunus. Entirely silver wired, it has quite intricately wired rims and shoulder. The gilded base bears the seal of Ota Tamashiro

Condition: Excellent. No chips, hairlines or repairs.

A Song/Yuan Qingbai Jar with Four Lugs. Height approximately 9 cm and diameter approximately 10.6 cm. Decorated with flowers, plants, a band of bottons and curve lines. Few crackles glaze at the jar. Few hairlines around the base. A firing crack below the shoulder. Good condition.

A pair of Japanese negoro lacquer temple ritual sake offering containers, rich dark red lacquer over a black lacquer with a graceful body and a wishing ball stopper, Gigoshi, with a spiral design. The pair used for Buddhist purification and fulfillment rituals, and show the patina of respectful use.
