This early 20th century carved ivory Buddha statue (Japanese called Hotai) is 6 ¼ inches tall, 3 ¾ inches wide and 3 ¼ inches in depth. The whole statue was carved from one solid ivory tusk. The left hand of the Buddha is holding a small fan; his right hand is resting on his knee. He wears a twisted necklace and earrings and has a big smile on his face. Most of the calligraphy has worn off, but some characters are still legible. It looks like it was made to honor one family¡¯s ancestor. This pair of enameled glass brush holders carries a wild geese and grass design. They are 5 ¼ inches tall and 3 inches in diameter. They came in blue brocade fitted boxes. Both have a ¡°Qian Long¡± (1736~1795) mark on the bottom. Near the date mark there is a red wax seal which indicates they were exported from mainland China. The color and the design are great. Both are in perfect condition.

However, we assume the mark is fictitious. It is beautifully painted and in good condition except for a tiny flaw on the rim.
