18th Century Japanese Wood Tall Netsuke: Gama Sennin

18th Century, excellently hand-carved Boxwood Netsuke depicting a standing Gama, wearing the typical mugwort cape with wide sleeves, and a rope tied at his waist, holding a staff with his right hand, and carrying a three-legged toad (that possesses magical powers) on top of his left shoulder. Very interesting himotoshi that starts in the back of the Sennin and exits on the left side of his body (see photo #8)...

Asian buffalo Horn with Silver over copper mounts with turquoise stones... This type of drinking horn was a common household item used throughout Mongolia...each family member had his (or her) own drinking horn and they were kept on a wooden rack which was made for that purpose... Antique Japanese framed scroll painting by the artist Mori Sosen (1747-1821), Japanese painter of the Shijō school during the Edo period. Although he did paint other animals and birds, Sosen is most famous for his paintings monkeys. In this painting, a mother monkey grooms her young one. Her expression is one of intent concentration while her little monkey protests. Sosen was a master at painting monkeys, delineating every hair and creating a soft effect...

An antique Japanese large rare Ema (votive prayer board) hand painted in Makie gold over a black lacquer background. A hand forged iron pin mounted to the top center of the frame was used to securely hang this dedication sacred object at a Japanese shrine.

Back in the day, live horses were donated and dedicated to a shrine. As the times changed, prayer boards were donated instead with painted horses replacing the live ones...

Antique Japanese iron tsuba (sword hand guard) decorated with mixed metal gold and silver inlay. One side show a scene of a small dog playing with a grass hopper amidst grasses and flowers. In the distance are mountains topped with gold. The reverse side is signed by the maker and shows a scene of a small sleeping dog curled up in the bamboo by a stream.

An antique Thai Manuscript Storage Cabinet made of Teak that was used to store and preserve Buddhist scriptures that were written on manuscripts made of palm-leaf as well as text on Buddhism written on Khoi paper. Often donated by wealthy patrons to monasteries, they housed these venerable writings. It was decorated using a technique called Lai Rod Nam that is gold on a black lacquer ground...

This late Qing Dynasty hat is in excellent condition. Made with silk fabric with silk thread satin stitch embroidery on both front and back, it has long tassels on each side.

Hard Stone Bead Necklace 106 very hard green stone beads, 10 green turquoise (perhaps malachite) beads and 5 larger pink rock crystal beads. Mounted with silver filigree details and silk threads. China Qing dynasty. Difficult to date exactly. China 19th century or before.

Small cast bronze tripod incense burner. Beautiful finish. The two handles are in the shape of Buddhist lions heads. Qing Chinese. The bottom of the feet slightly flared would rather suggest a Japanese Edo creation but without certainty. Dirty. Width 65mm

A Rare blue and white double gourd ewer, decorated with Chrysanthemum scrolls and flaming pearl to the spout, classic scroll to the handle. Tiny chip to the tip of spout and short firing crack to he handle, otherwise is perfect condition. Yuan Dynasty 13th-14th Century Jindezhen Ware. Height: 19 cm.

Rare quality wooden netsuke of a girl holding down a large fish; expression and detail is first class; this netsuke is rare and is a work by Itchiku; his mark is on the base; good condition

Small rooster in green and orange yellow glazed clay. Tang period. I will take more pictures on request. Good condition. A glued label with the number 7 of an old collection. The age is certain because I bought it 50 years ago and in 1970 there were no copies of Tang ceramics of such small size, the only copies that were made at that time were of important subjects, large horses, camels and riders.... I have found and attached the reference photos. Height: 99mm Good condition.

Nice little teapot in satzuma earthenware. Decorated with a landscape of madarin ducks, symbol of marital happiness. Original handle in woven bamboo fibre. Signature of the artist, I did not look for it but I can do it on request. Perfect condition. Width about: 11cm

Very rare pendant in cast bronze representing a fabulous animal. It could be a bird because on the back there seems to be stylized feathers and the mouth seems to be garnished with a beak, but it could also be the fangs of a dragon? The animal surrounds a cartouche which contains archaic Chinese characters. The object is certainly very old and the style would indicate a very high Shang or Zhou period but the patina is not archaic...

Classic long sleeved silk brocade cheongsam aka qipao. This is all hand tailored and hand sewn, definitely not off the rack. Beautiful floral pattern (lotus, chrysanthemum, and pomegranate blossoms) with foliate scrolls, this pattern can be traced back to Ming Dynasty blue and white porcelain. The zipper has come off the track other than that perfect condition. See enlargements for dimensions. Clean but could use a steam press. More dimensions can be provided for a serious buyer.

Porcelain or stoneware vase covered with a thick, deep black glaze that is stained with brown streaks in places same as Tenmoku style. The ceramic is very heavy, thick and solid. The glaze is deep and thick, in some places it flows in very thick drops.The rim of the neck has no glaze which makes me think that it must have been lightly ground, if so it should not be missing much as the vase is very elegant and well proportioned. I think that it's Ming périod perhaps earlier. Height about 40cm...

An antique Japanese Kasane Tansu (stacking chest on chest) made of Keyaki (Zekova) wood. The body and drawer fronts use this highly prized and rare wood while the drawer backs and interior were made using Suginoki (Cryptomeria) wood. All original hand forged iron hardware with beautiful lock plates that feature the lucky treasure bag (Fukubukuro), Mokko style handles and drawer corners with fine stimple work.
