Cylinder shaped (hanzutsu) tea bowl made of light, fine, unrefined Mino clay dating to early Edo Period. Shape and style make it appear contemporary with the late Oribe bowls.

The expertly thrown body is covered with the typical black oniita engobe inside and outside - with the exception of the bottom - over which a white, feldspatic Shino glaze has been poured...

Naturalistic crayfish made of copper from the Meiji period, 1868 -1912. The piece is unusual in that the legs, antennae, and tail move in the same way that a real crayfish moves. It is signed Shinju on the base of the body. It measures 6" long.

Magical, richly sculpted and beautifully formed Pair of Blue Kutani Porcelain Cats. Meiji Period. 8 inches (20cm) high.

Rough and heavy Hagi Chawan, over 100 years old (Meiji Period), with an expressive crackle glaze.

Aesthetic inborn kiln cracks make this chawan so special. No damages or repairs.

The signature chip located on the bottom (unknown potter to me) is a local tradition from the Edo period when potters would deliberately disfigure their wares in order to sell them to merchants instead of presenting them as gifts to the Môri clan...

A Japanese Imari chocolate cup, cover and saucer made for export to the European market dating to the early 18th century. Decorated with a rich Imari style ground of stylised palmate leaves and Peony blooms inset with ogee form reserves with Chinese style estuarine landscapes. An overlapping lotus petal border to the base of the beaker in underglaze blue The saucer and beaker are in excellent condition. The cover has been broken but has been cleanly re-stuck creating an almost invisible repair...

An Arita serving bowl, namasu, of moulded simplified lotus form partially celadon glazed with a ko sometsuke style Sansui landscape in the well of the bowl framed by enamelled Chestnut branches outlined in gilt. The reverse plain and the interior of the foot-ring clear glazed. The bowl is typical of the output of the Higuchi kiln in the Nangawara valley which specialised in combing celadon and clear glazes...

We offer a really rare kiseto ( yellow seto ware ) chawan from the Momoyama Period with tanpan marks ( copper green marks ).

It is a high fired ware from the end of the 16th. century in the Aburage-Hada style.

The early Kiseto glazes ( yellow Seto ) from the Muromachi period are considered to be attempts to emulate Chinese celadons from the Song dynasty...

Miniature Japanese bronze figure of a monkey observing its right fist, balled up while the other hand remains with palms opened. The piece is very detailed down to the monkey's fingers and toes curled underneath itself. Edo period (1615-1867) Size: 1.25" height, 1.5" length

This well carved 19th century wood netsuke is 1 3/8” high, 1 1/8” wide and 1” thick. It depicts a man wearing a shi-shi (lion) mask and playing a drum. Aside from two toes missing on his right foot, it is in good condition.

Antique Japanese bronze vase, beautiful shape and subject matter, 3 koi swimming together, slightly raised with gold inlaid eyes, unusual rim of vase looks like surface of swirling water, beautiful and subtle, bottom of vase signed: Kano, comes with original signed tomobako, Meiji Period (c1900). A rare pair of miniature vases of hexagonal baluster form vases with the elegant proportions typical of the early eighteenth century c.1700-1720. Each vertical compartment decorated with flowers, chrysanthemums, pinkes and peonies. These belong to a class of porcelain that can be best described as toyes, small novelty collectables. Antique Japanese 2 section isho tansu (clothing chest) from the Nihonmatsu area. Made with keyaki (elm) wood with dramatic grain and original deep reddish orange translucent lacquer finish. The chest is made up of four large drawers and a safe box in the lower right hand side which has two small drawers behind a locking safe door (with key).
