This is an fine Japanese Cloisonne Koro in nearly mint condition. It has been used and some of the smoke residue can be seen on the underside of the lid. There are no damages and virtually wear to the gold. The koro stands 4 1/4 inches tall and is 3 1/2 inches wide.

Japanese six panel byobu (folding screen painting). Hand-painted with imagery of realistic swimming fish and flowers with gold flecks. Signed in stylized calligraphy with 2 red chops.

An elaborately decorated Japanese porcelain elephant with applied beads of enamel and large areas of gold trim. There is a large five point gold leaf centered on its' back. The elephant measures about 9" long x 6" high x 4 1/4" wide, and dates to the early 20th Century. There is a badly worn "Made Japan" mark on the bottom of one foot. The condition is excellent, except for minor wear to some of the gold high points, like the forehead and ear edges...

This unique and stylish bronze vase has a beautiful shape. Two charming elephant trunks extend from the neck of vase on either side with a floral, geometric background. Near base, Japanese Taotie, ogre-like characters, and curvy designs spread around the vase, adding intriguing detail. Vase also includes a copper inset that can be removed. Antique Japanese tea kettle made with a half bronze and half copper body, with raised studding along the middle where the two components meet and along its handle. Its lid is bronze, with a cylindrical finial. 19th Century Meiji Period Size: 9" height, 8" width

Girl's kimono made of hamp, made in Ohmi region in Shiga prefecture, and it is called Ohmi-jofu. It has kasuri pattern, whose motifs are phoenix, cloud and flower. Warps are machine-spun and wefts are hand-plied. Red cloth inside is silk. Meiji period (1868~1912) In excellent condition. W:97cm, L:107cm

Late Meiji period (1890s to 1912) Japanese wooden kushi (hair comb) with black and gold lacquer decoration of pine saplings and flowering prunus branches, design continuing onto the back. Nice pairing of the two out of the Three (third being bamboo) Friends of Winter. Beautifully made out of wood with dense texture allowing for very fine teeth, superb fine lacquering, wonderful work in Japanese taste, in excellent condition. Length 4.85 inches.

Nobori banners, carps, warrior's Yoroi and Kabuto helmets, samurai dolls and swords were all a part of the display used for Boy's Day (renamed Children's Day) on May 5th in Japan. They reflect the parents' wish to inspire their sons in manliness, discipline, bravery and the honor codes which are associated with them.

Originally, nobori were used on the battlefield to identify the troops; some were to show the warriors where their taisho (general) was, others were used to shift the troops...

Antique Japanese tetsubin (kettle for heating water for tea) made of cast iron and decorated with a dragon in swirling clouds. The highly raised design depicts a dragon curling itself around the body of the pot. The clouds over hang in a ledge above the base. There is a large raised cartouche on the back underneath this ridge. The lid is made of bronze.

A cheerful Japanese Arita "Imari" bowl with a spotted lion dog looking at a waterfall. This scene is repeated in 3 cartouches surrounding the bowl's exterior. Enameled with vivid palette of colors, it is in very good original condition. No repairs, hairline, etc. Spurious Chinese mark on bottom reads "Greatest Ming Chenghua Make". Measures 7.75 Inches in diameter by 3.75" high.

A golden brocaded basket suspended in air and filled with flowers. A bird resting on a branch while another flutters about surrounded by the joy of spring. This cup and saucer is one of my personal favorites, delicate and translucent and without flaw; the gold accentuates the weaving of the basket, the flowers well arranged, and every detail seems to spring to life. Our treasure is perfect in every way, except for very minor wear along the raised spines of the foliated saucer...
