A Japanese Arita porcelain Kakiemon style dish, circa 1720~1750. The square dish with indented corners, the rim with a deep kuchibeni brown rim, the centre with a gobenka motif. The cavetto is decorated with flowers and grasses amongst rocks. Tiny touches of coloured enamels have been applied to the design, a style first seen in the early 18th century. Within the foot-rim can be found a six-character imitation of a Chinese Ming Chenghua reign mark ‘Daimin Seika Nensei’...

Unusual Japanese wood carving of a figure, appearing to be a foreign man, who wields an axe head. The figure is seated, kneeling upon a jagged throne. The patina of the carving shows remnants of old lacquer.

Elegantly decorated vase with a geometric design of 24 facets. Meiji period, late 19th century. Sparsely painted with airy flower sprigs, leaving large parts of the cream-coloured crackle-glazed surface undecorated. The mouth rim with the mon (emblem) of the Itagaki (?) family. Impressed three character mark to the base and painted signature in red. Height "6¼ / 16 cm. Condition: fine.

Antique Japanese Buddhist Temple lantern made of gilt copper with a wooden interior armature and iron handle. This six sided lantern is decorated all over with ornate pierced karakusa, scrolling arabesque filigree. Both top and bottom of the lantern have six trapezoidal friezes, each with a three dimensional medallion in it's center depicting alternating crests of blossoms and Buddhist symbols. A very large pair of hardwood transom / temple architectural elements, elaborately carved with charming motifs of squirrels eating from grape vines. The carvings are deeply recessed with raised outside edges of a scrolling form. Realistic grape vines and leaves continue along the underside of each transom. Very heavy. Japanese antique transom made of keyaki (elm) wood and carved with scenes of samurai warriors. On the left hand side, a general gives orders to his troops (small figures carved in the round) partially behind a camp curtain. On the right hand side, another samurai rides a battle horse and raises his weapon high over his head. All around them are pine branches and swirling mist.

Distorted shoe shaped (kutsugata) tea bowl with a flaring mouth made of light, coarse, unrefined Mino clay. The expertly thrown body was trimmed with a potters knife in its lower part and its brim. It dates back to the early Edo Period (1603-1868).

It is covered with a very deep black iron oxide glaze inside and outside. A 'window' on the side has been left unglazed and is decorated with two fish nets hung for drying...
