This is a Late 18th Century, most likely Osaka School, excellently carved netsuke of a resting stag, head turned back, eyes inlaid in black horn, with a dapple cloth, and good hair work. Unsigned. It measures 2.05 inches (5.2cm) wide, and 0.83 inches (2.1cm) tall.

Late Meiji period (1890s 1912) Japanese buffalo horn kushi (hair comb) with lacquer decoration of a Manchurian crane in flight, design continuing on both sides. Nicely made, good work in Japanese taste, some losses and insect damage as seen on photos. Length 3.92 inches. Part of East Coast collection of Japanese hair items.

A set of five Japanese porcelain bowls of tapering square form, the corners with shallow concave chamfers, decorated with alternating panels of flowers and Ho-0 birds.

Each base has a ‘Fuki Choshun’ four-character mark in underglaze blue.

An antique Meiji Period two sectional tansu made from kiri wood with iron hardware. The top section has two large drawers. The bottom section has two medium size drawers and on the right side a door with lock. Behind the door are two smaller drawers. And below one small drawer.

It originates from the Yamagata tansu district of Japan in the Tohoku northern Japan region.

Japanese Wooden Shrine Pilgrimage Sign or Temple hanging box, Meiji period, 19th century, 27" long, 3 1/2" wide, 2 1/2" deep, Japanese "Kanji" hand script writing in black Ink, the condition is weather worn condition with beautiful old patina.

Antique Japanese large tsuba (samurai sword hand guard). Cast in iron with an intentionally uneven surface to suggest a sandy beach or rock and further decorated with mixed metal inlay in the form of a variety of sea shells. Two very rare Ko-imari rice bowls from the Genroku period. C. 1690-1710. These are just gorgeous, the bottoms are painted in the chevron pattern, and various geometrical patterns of roundels with honey comb patterns throughout. Two dragons adorn either side of each cup and each surrounded with colors of iron red and green enamels with gold gilt accents. Each bowl and cover are in perfect condition with very little wear to the enamels, almost non-existant...

We like to present you today an early Edo Period Karatsu Yaki Guinomi (Sake cup) with aesthetic silver repair (kintsugi) made around 1700.

The Guinomi has a hira-gata shape, refering to the Kamakura Period. Fantastic item!

This is a children's kimono used in Kyoto during the Edo period. This is depicted in Tsutsugaki. This is exactly the bold expression only Tsutsugaki has. It is the carps, waves and rocks, movements are boldly expressed in Tsutsugaki. It is a three-dimensional expression. It has a sharp color. This is expressed in high quality natural indigo and is impressive. It has four pinholes and a few slight stains, but it does not stand out. Size length 92 cm 36.2 inch width 88 cm 34.6 inch

Late 19th century Japanese porcelain trumpet vase decorated on a rose or bright puce ground with a long-tailed bird perched amongst trees and flowers. The interior rim is decorated with small flower sprays and on the base is a painter's mark. In very good original condition, it measures 12.% inches high, 7.5" mouth diameter, 5.5 base diameter.

This is a finely carved 19th Century Netsuke depicting SEIOBO, The Chinese Queen of the Fairies. Seiobo, is also known as Si Wang Mu. According to Taoist legends, she has a palace in the Konron Mountains, where she grows the tree of the genii, the fruit that ripens every three thousand years. The fruit of this tree confers the gift of immortality to the person who eats it. The shallow dish with a roundel containing a very finely painted coiled dragon, Danryū mon, within a double circle. The cavetto is decorated with a stenciled trellis or Chinese lie-wen design against a pale ruri background. Within the foot-rim is found an apocryphal Chinese Ming Chenghua reign mark.

An interesting Japanese puppet head of an old woman used in Bunraku, the traditional puppet theater developed in the Edo period by Uemura Bunrakuken, which the name of the puppet theater was derived from. The puppet consists of several moving parts. The head and neck are two separate pieces that move up and down. The bar on the bottom assist the puppet master to move the head in various ways and the rope as a lever. Age: 19th century. Size: Height: 11" Width: 7" Length: 4"
