Wonderful Indian bronze altar with the Hindu god Vishnu flanked by two female consorts, the three figures stand together on a raised platform with the four armed Vishnu in the center, a many headed naga (cobra snake) opens it's hood like an umbrella over Vishnu's head, a flat nimbus behind the figures depicts tendrils of water flowing from the mouths of two makara. Southern India. 19th century. Size: 11 1/2" high x 9 1/2" wide x 4" deep.

Height approximately 24.5 cm. There are 2 hairlines at the rim.

A splendid antique Japanese usubata or flower vase used in ikebana. The surface of the piece is covered with a red coating to mimic cinnabar lacquer. The images of pheasants and peacocks surround the body of the vase. The sides are elephants and the legs are formed from a mythical beast. Antique Japanese cast iron tetsubin (kettle for heating water for tea). Made with a tall handle and bell-shaped body. Raised shells adorn one side with a raised abalone shell on the other. The intentional casting of rough edges adds a natural beach-like appearance. The lid is also made of cast iron.
