A porcelain Kendi with powderblue glaze and decorations in gold, mounted with a silver lid and spout. China, Qianlong (1736-1795). H. 27 cm. Condition: wear to the gold decoration and wear to the silver (see pictures). The silver spout may have had a small lid, that was connected with a chain to the main lid of the Kendi. Note: Many Kendis were exported to Indonesia, it is very well possible that the silver mounts were added there. Provenance: Amsterdam private collection.

This well and thinly carved classic chrysanthemum bowl is fashioned from highly transparent agate. Probably dating to the Qianlong period, it was perhaps intended for court use as a wine cup, judging from its high quality carving, and its small and delicate form. Tiny crevices to the interior and pale clouding are natural to the stone. It is in good condition with no chips or restorations...
