This is a finely carved 19th Century Japanese Netsuke, depicting a traveling Gama Sennin, dressed in his traditional mugwort cape, with a walking stick in his hand, who has taken a break by resting on a porous rock. Japanese mingei water wheel of hinoki wood. Constructed with iron nails, joinery, complete with 17 spokes and paddles with kanji characters. The central hub has an iron piston protruding for rotational function. The wheel comes with a contemporary custom steel mount which allows it to spin smoothly and silently.

Up for auction sale is an 19th century Han Chinese woman's surcoat, black silk ground with intricate embroideries on collar, sleeve bands and trims; 5 gilt ball-and-loop toggle buttons. The robe is overall in very good condition, clean, very light stains in sleeves and minor tear in the right armpit. Measurements : Top collar to bottom hem 38.5", Sleeve to sleeve 57" stretch, sleeve width 20.5", width between arm pits 30" narrowest, width of hem 38" widest.

Thick cotton, Katazome stencil dye, aizome Japanese indigo dye with beni flowers. 70 1/2" x 13". The width changes to 12 1/2 after 39 1/2" where the fabric is torn. One 1/2" round stain (at 20 inches from torn end). Weakened at the seam (visible in some area from reverse side).

An incredible Japanese antique Kanazawa kaidan staircase, with hand quartered sawn keyaki drawer fronts and black sliding door framework. Mixture of sliding compartments and pullout drawers. Attached original hand rail that is very unusual. Stunning original lacquered reddish orange coloration. Overall the chest is in excellent original condition with everything working just as it should.

The seal is carved in rock-crystal and is very attractive, Sasanian, ca. 3rd.-6th. century AD.

The base of this hemispheric seal is engraved with a firealter that gives a very high relief impression in wax.
