Antique Japanese todana mizuya (kitchen cabinet) made from a beautiful keyaki burl wood in reddish brown hues, with two sets of sliding panels, 8 drawers in varying size, and one pull-out panel with a ring handle. It has a very interesting and unusual form, with slats running down its sides and back. The inside of the top set of sliding panels has an aged sheet of paper marked with kanji. Striking large Japanese ceramic Tokoname jar, wonderful irregular shape, large kiln fragments, thick ash glaze with unusual subtle blue and yellow striations, Momoyama Period (1573-1615). (The Tokoname Kiln is considered one of the "6 Ancient Kilns" and was located at Tokoname on the Chita Peninsula, bordering Ise Bay.)

This is a fine cloisonne enamel vase from the Meiji Period. Though more simplistic than many of his pieces, We believe this was vase made by Hayashi. I There are plenty of image and viewer can make up their own mind. The birds are well done and each is designed with gold wires. The difficult scroll under the top rim is also similar to Hayashi's work. The vase stands 6 inches tall and condition is excellent.

Large, rectangular brush pot made from a dark bamboo wood. Each of its four sides has a large panel, carved skilfully with beautiful scenery. Adult and children figures are carved performing similar tasks, such as fishing over a bridge, with grass huts, rugged rock formations, large exotic trees bearing fruit, and beautiful architecture becoming the main focus of each panel. Each side is separated by a thin corner panel, carved with two serpents or dragons with vine-like bodies...

An antique Japanese Karatsu ware tea container or chaire with motif of donkeys painted on the side of the piece. One side is painted in a indigo blue color with a fine tip and on the other side is brown done in thicker lines. The motif of donkeys in Japanese art may infer to the literati taste of a rustic and simple lifestyle. The motif is not often seen in ceramics, but mostly in paintings influenced by Chinese works...

A cute Japanese gosho ningyo doll in the form of Ebisu, one of seven fortune gods. Handpainted detail work, red and brocaded fabric is used for the clothing of the doll. Meiji to Taisho period. Size: Length: 5.5" Width: 6" Height: 9.5".

This porcelain figure or bust was produced in France by Vion & Baury in the 1870s. This piece is signed with impressed letters EB, Paris and a signature S. Kinsburger. The bisque figure is 7 ½ inches high and 4 ½ inches wide. The bust depicts a charming young maiden with a love letter tucked into her clothing. She is dressed in a frilly cap with polka dots. Her embroidered bodice is intricately hand painted and a row of gilded buttons accent it...

Handmade of colonial silver, this "mate" cup is of Uruguayan origin from the 1850-1870 period.
"Mate" is a special cup for drinking "yerba mate" a popular tea brewed from the leaves of a native holly (Ilex Paraguariensis). The perforated silver straw used for drinking the "mate" contains leaves carving.

This small elaborate Buddhist monk's medicine bottle is sewn into a larger pouch of burgundy homespun wool fabric with yellow/gold silk lining. When worn, the stopper would be securely held in the bottle by a system of handmade cords and bands. The medicine bottle would be worn outside the robes and suspended on the Monk's belt. These were used for both travel and ceremonies.

A set of elegant slim Italian cavalry flintlock pistols by the gunmaker Lazaro on the barrels and Weber / Erlan on the locks, c. late 18th. century.

The brass mounted pistols with dark mahogany stock, elaborately carved and the metal parts engraved with scrolls and floral decoration.

This antique carved wooden temple Buddha retains much of his original gilded paint. He sits on a tall base covered with the old Mon Khmer script which had been formed by scratching through the golden paint. The Buddha's head is topped with a stupa-shaped "flame" called usnisa, which symbolizes the realization of Nirvana. Perhaps that explains the soft smile and meditative expression on his face...
