Republic or a little later, black and red lacquered “Dou” offering stem bowl (usually fruit) for an ancestral altar table, with gilt garden and scholar’s theme. This from Guangdong and made for a Chaozhou family, aka Teo Chew, aka Chiu Chow. W: 21cm/8.2in and H: 13cm/5.1 in. There is some warpage, noted in enlargements but if just turn it the right way you won’t notice.

An antique Japanese Yonezawa Isho Tansu made of Kuri (Chestnut) and Sugi (Cryptomeria) woods. All original Urushi lacquer finish and hand forged iron hardware. Lock plates feature the family crest of the original owner with bronze outer circular frames. The handles are of the Warabite style. Five drawers with a security hinged door that hides 2 additional drawers.
Age: Meiji period (1880-1890)

A rare Seto Chawan with wonderful glaze made by one of the best potters of the early 20th century - the 1st Shuntei Kato (1885 - 1961). This tea bowl was made over 100 years ago and it comes with the originally signed wooden box of the artist.
His real name is Kanae KATO. He was born 1885 as the third son of Shunsen KATO.
In 1907 he established a branch family, named himself Shuntei and became the first generation...
