Apparently this is not by the listed New Mexico artist Sam Smith (1918-1999) as the signature is not similar and the work itself does not resemble that artist's work. This watercolor is in excellent, fresh, clean condition, the paper very white.

It is 13" by 19" in a handsome newer frame (overall dimensions of 16 3/4" by 22 2/4".) The condition is good and it is signed indistinctly (as many of his paintings are) on the piece of wood floating in the lower front of the painting. He is listed in Benezit and his paintings sell for up to $400,000.
