Watercolor on paper, 19" by 20" (27 3/4" by 27 3/4" as framed), confidently signed at lower left by professional artist MARINA ULIANOFF, and dated there 1951. I do not see a listing for the name, but, there is a listing for a Los Angeles area artist by the name of Vsevolod Ulianoff (1880-1940), who painted murals like that in the lobby of Grauman's Chinese Theater in Hollywood. I imagine there is a possibility this could be by his wife...

Measures 28 3/4" by 20 1/2". Photos were taken in glass poster framing as found (allow for reflections)...
A watercolor with pencil and pen and ink showing the Arch of Janus in the foreground on the right with the tower and a porch of the Church of Saint George’s in Velabro Rome a little further back on the left. Written on the old backboard “S. Giorgio – Roma/ Augustus Hare” and a card on added to it fairly recently, probably when it was reframed, “S. Giorgio in Rome/ Dec...

Watercolor and mixed media (ink, gouache) drawing, 8 1/4" by 10 1/4" (13 3/4" by 15 3/4" framed), titled on the reverse framing paper in the hand of the artist "David playing before King Saul", signed there and again at lower left by the well listed New York-California artist IRVING ALEXANDER BLOCK (1910-1986). There is an inscription in Hebrew at lower left near the signature. The subject and handling of the figures evokes Marc Chagall, Mane-Katz and other Jewish artists...

An unframed, unstretched oil on canvas painting of famous author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle relaxing in his chair, pipe in hand and faithful Irish Terrier dog "Paddy" at his side. The work is unsigned, and likely dates to circa 1920. Could be American or European; the unknown artist was obviously trained and skilled. The painting is blanched---a cleaning would likely minimize or totally remove that condition. The tacking edge has been removed. Measurements are 17 1/2" by 13 1/2"...
An old oil on wood panel painting of a peaceful stream running through a wooded area, unsigned, 9 1/4" by 13", unframed. The work is obviously by a talented hand, probably a listed artist had he/she signed it. The oval artist's materials stamp on reverse of panel and the work itself suggests a date of circa 1900, maybe 1910. The oil needs some attention from a restorer to fully expose its original beauty...
This is a watercolor painting of the famous Philippe's French Dip Restaurant in downtown Los Angeles, an iconic area landmark to this day. The restaurant opened in 1908 and remains a vital part of Los Angeles' living history. At the restaurant, so the story goes, in the year 1918, a food preparer accidentally dropped a hot meat sandwich into the juices of the cooking pan. A customer requested it, despite its "compromised" condition...

Oil on burlap by the Mexican artist Jose Maria de Servin (1917-1983) of a young boy holding a colorful fish, in the modernist style that he established early in his career.
Measures 26 1/2" x 19 1/2", is not stretched or framed.
The painting depicts a young boy seated while holding a bright fish, wearing sandals and a straw hat with flowing ribbons.
Servin typically painted these portraits on burlap, most frequently of children holding objects, pets, or other objects...
Oil on canvas laid on board, 3 1/4" by 5 3/4", 6 1/2" by 8 3/4" framed, this work is almost a miniature. The subject is typical Texas: a dirt road winding into the distance in a country landscape, trees at the right. I would be tempted to say this is a typical "bluebonnet painting", featuring the famous wildflower display that anyone who has been in Texas in the spring will recall with fondness; but the signature at lower left "GOFF" is very interesting...
A color print, pencil signed at lower right, numbered 466/900 at lower left, by the noted western American artist OLAF WIEGHORST (1899-1988). The title is "Navajos at Castle Creek", measuring 17 3/4" by 24 1/2" inside the mat, 28" by 34" as framed. Wieghorst was born in Denmark and was exposed to horses there. By 1918 he was in the United States. Ultimately he settled in the San Diego area and became well known for his western American art. Paintings have gone into six figures at auction. T...
Of terracotta or earthenware, this lovely sculpture depicts a pug dog lying down, has glass eyes and a red collar.
Painted surface over tan body.
With big jowls and black ears, he is quite endearing, and is in good condition for its age.
Condition is good overall, with no breaks or chips, just minor loss to paint surface, all visible in photos.
Most dog figures like this were made in Germany, and were imported all over the world to dog fanciers.
Sometimes it is difficult to be sure of the ...

Oil on very thin canvas, 11 1/2" by 17 1/2" (17" by 23" in vintage frame), the subject given as "Smoke Tree" in pencil on reverse paper, signed at lower left corner "Haydock". This is apparently a work of an MARGUERITE HAYDOCK, listed in Hughes' Dictionary of California Artists (where the artist is described as "active in Yosemite in 1931". A Ruby Lane user pointed out that he owns a letter by the artist in which she mentions this painting, and references a black and white photo on which it was...

Small oil on canvas (9" by 6 1/2", 13"by 10" framed), laid on plywood panel painting of a dark green mountainside, some autumn leaves beginning to appear on two spindly trees, apparently unsigned, circa late 19th century. The painting probably dates to about 1880 but has been laid on the plywood in recent decades (some waxy drips on the plywood as seen). There is some craquelure with a few pinpoint losses. I have searched in vain for any hint as to who the artist might have been. Framing is ...

Gouache on paper laid on board extensive landscape in the naive style, signed at left "Yehoshua" (YEHOSHUA BRANDSTATTER (1891-1975).
