DESCRIPTION: An unusual netsuke featuring an abalone shell crafted from wavy burl wood with an ivory lobster perched on top. The lobster’s curled antennas are made of metal, and on the underside of the shell a signature is etched into the wood. Early to mid 20th century in very good condition. DIMENSIONS: 1 ¾” long (4.5 cm).

Enigmatic script in Doro-e raised design decorates the sides of this simple white glazed chawan by 20th centiury Master Kawai Kanjiro enclosed in a wooden box endorsed by his wife Tsune. Brief tinges of subdued red appear through he cloudy white glaze. It is 5 inches (12.5 cm) diameter, 4 inches ((10 cm) tall and in perfect condition. Yuki-boshi (snow hat) or yuki-kabuto (snow helmet) made of palm tree fiber and vegetable indigo dye cotton inside. It has washi painted with Paulownia oil for waterproof, between outside and cotton indigo lining. It is from Shonai region in Yamagata prefecture in Tohoku district. It is said it was worn by "matagi", a hunter. The second half of the 19th century. In good condition with belts inside are left, which is rather rare. 40cm x 57cm
