An early Edo period Ki-Seto sake cup repurposed with a silver lid pierced with a chrysanthemum to function as an incense burner enclosed in a custom made silk pouch and bamboo case dating the transformation to New Years of Kae-7 (1854). Without the lid it is 5.5 cm (roughly 2 inches) diameter and in excellent condition.

A very high quality mahogany drop leaf table with turned legs and stretchers with a shaped apron at either end. The three boards, one for the top and one for each leaf are well matched single boards. Excellent proportion and a nice small size. 27 ½ tall X 28 ¾ long X 11 ½ wide in inches. With the leaves up 31 ½ inches wide.

Condition; minor repairs including the replacement of one of the feet. There is an old breakout at one of the joints...

The light, little coarse clay with enclosures is expertly thrown and full glazed - including the foot - with a transparent glaze of wood ash with some feldspar. The glaze shows attractive shrinking (kairagi) in the lower half of the bowl. It shows discoloration from green tea, a sign of many years of careful use...

This is a very fine and extremely rare pipe from Venezuela known as a pipas angulares de barro procedentes. There is only one book written on Aztec pipes. "Pipas Precortesianas" was written by Muriel N. Porter. Porter states that Aztec pipes are extremely scarce and "we can almost say that pipes were unknown." There is a drawing in this book of this class/type of pipe. Of course, tobacco wasn't available until the Spaniards introduced it...
