19th century staghorn ojime (slide bead for tightening the cord going from netsuke to inro) carved as a head of an octopus with thoroughly useless scarf tied around its forehead (usually those scarves are used by workmen to keep the sweat out of their eyes). Great humorous design, wonderful face, natural imperfections in staghorn, compressed dust on the surface, in great condition, signed HAKUSHO on the back. Height 11/16 inches. Wooden stand used for photography is not included.

This porcelain serving dish was produced in France by Theodore Haviland Limoges in the late 19th century. It measures 13 inches long and 6 3/4 inches wide. The porcelain has molded decoration and handles are built into the dish. We know that it is factory decorated since there is an impressed mark as well as a printed mark. The border is turquoise blue. This color blue is used in the decoration and is overlaid with fancy gilding so only a little of the blue shows through...
A deep dish or shallow bowl delicately painted with famille rose enamels depicting two historical figures with their titles and accompanying poems and with a peach and bat to the centre. The base carries the reign mark of the Daoguang emperor and this item was possibly made during his reign. A extremely rare Jingdezhen ware Ming Hongzhi Period ( 1488 - 1505 ) porcelain dish, glazed with a pale bluish - white glaze over a incised Chrysanthemum decoration. Normally the same type of decoration we know from large Ming blue and white dishes - the same decor incised is very rare to find.
Diameter : 25 cm.
Condition : There is just one very fine and short hairline near the base( shown on the last image ) otherwise the dish is in an excellent condition.

Antique Japanese surimono woodblock print by Hokkei (1780-1850) entitled "The Chomonju - Snake and Melons". A snake entwined with a tray of melons. The poem above speaks of how the snake will become a dragon which will make clouds of white cherry blossoms in the mountains. Snakes and dragons are closely associated with water. The poems alludes to a wish for rain and the blossoming of Spring.
