A very attractive Chinese stoneware jar with a wide ribbed body. Hand crafted with a dark celadon glaze, the inside which is brown is also glazed, can hold liquids, and can be used as a vase. In excellent original condition, no cracks, no hairlines. Circa 20th Century, it measures 8” high x 8.5” diameter, mouth measures 5" across.
Antique Japanese container called a jikiro, a special bowl used for tea ceremonies. It has a red lacquer base that is matte on the lid and shiny on the inside and bottom, with raised black lacquer stems and leaves and red chrysanthemums. Minor areas of missing lacquer along the rim.

The body is decorated by imagery of a seaside village with various people going about their daily lives; The neck with auspicious scholar's objects on a background of medallions, various flowers in bloom, and lotus petals towards the opening of the mouth. Daoguang mark on foot.

The scarab carved in a greyish type of stone, stylized type made to be placed at the heart of the body. The details of the head and front faintly incised.

Condition: Good very fine for type, finely patinated.
