Children in Japan will sometimes attempt to summon the Baku in the middle of the night to devour their nightmares and motifs of him are commonly found in bedrooms. Antique African Wrist Knife with protective leather sheath. When the sheath is removed from the metal disc, a decorative piece worn on the wrist is turned into a lethal weapon. The Turkana are a pastoralist people of northern Kenya. Knowing no boundaries such knives can also be found in southern Ethiopia. Size 4.5" by 4.5"over 2.25" interior diameter very very sharp. Antique Tibetan flint carrying pouch (also called a mechag or chuck muck), made of leather with repousse silver plaques, inlaid with turquoise and coral front. Motifs of filigree and flora are seen through the silver plating. The leather purse is made to hold a flint piece and some burnable material. The flint is struck against the iron blade, making a spark which is caught in the material. The top is fitted with brass hardware for hanging from a leather strap...

Antique Kazak rug with blue, red and olive green colors. the border has four bands. The three medallions sit amongst a blue ground interspersed with flowers. 19th-20th century. It measures 7'3" by 5'2".

Sensational 'ichibori' one knife carved block representation of Hotei, one of the seven lucky gods of Japan. He holds a Gumpei in his right hand, the magical standard and in his left hand the Hoju, the sacred wishing gem. Fine old Burma lacquerware box. This piece is quite rare in that it is a complete set with three compartments on top and one shallow “hidden” compartment in the base. There is an old repair on the cracquelure on the lid as well as some traditional restoration on the undecorated portions. This is an early 20th century piece (possibly 19th century) from the Gadu-Ganan region, Shan State. D: 16.cm/6.2in and W: 16cm/6.2in.

A set of old Japanese wooden combs with a cloth comb holder. These are hair styling combs used when most women had the hairdo of today’s geisha. Each comb had a different function which was basically to comb, style and clean the hair. The combs here are all hand cut and it appears that some were added later. All combs are cleaned.

This was the traditional jacket used by girls of the Yi Chinese ethnic Minority. Girls wore this style until they were married. This garment is small and was most likely worn by a child between 7-10 years old.
