An Arita blue & white porcelain dish decorated with a pavilion and poetry, an equestrian and servant in the foreground. The dish is moulded with a shallow ‘rinka’ edge. The back is plain and has three spur marks within the foot-rim.
An identical dish is illustrated in the Shibata Collection Vol.4, #303 where it is dated to 1770~1800.
Approximately 18 cm diameter. The dish has some light wear from normal use, plate stacking for example, but is otherwise in fine condition...
Dragon candlestick in bronze forming crucifix. Japan edo. This cruciform shape is unknown in Japanese art. I think it is a household crucifix for a Japanese Christian family who would have liked to have a discreet crucufix in their house. A non-Christian visitor would never have suspected that this three-candle dragon was a representation of Christ on the cross...
19th century miniature Hirado porcelain sculpture of a karako (Chinese boy) lying on his back, the upper part of his body raised up. Could have been used as a brushrest. Excellent crisp modeling with incised details - see his wonderful face, well defined hands and clothing details. Beautiful glaze with numerous tiny bubbles giving it depth, unglazed bottom, in excellent condition, very pleasant to the touch. Typical Hirado underglaze blue and brown highlights. Length 2 3/8 inches.

A good sized bowl and cover decorated with a striking pattern of stylised Bamboo leaves with spirals and zigzag motifs. The bowl and cover are of conventional form. The handle has the form of a tied bundle of noshi, dried abalone strips, which are usually associated with the act of giving and ceremonial use, so this may possibly be a presentation piece. Antique Japanese stone sekitō (pagoda) with three tiers. Made of granite and carved in 7 stacking pieces. The central square section is carved with a seated Buddha on four sides. The top spire is carved with 9 tiers between lotus petals. The surface has a beautiful patina and is covered with areas lichen and moss.

A lovely set of temple ancestor figures of male and woman, China, Qing Dynasty, 18th.-19th. century.

Beautiful large Japanese standing Amida Buddha, finely carved wood with red, black and gold lacquer, flowing drapery. Standing on base carved to look like rock and lotus and painted with a gold lacquer, inlaid glass eyes.

Ivory netsuke, depicting three wise men of good fortune, Hotei, Jurojin and Fukurokuju, on the boat of fortune, the Takarabune. The Takarabune, whose bow is shaped like a Ryu dragon, sails on the waves of the sea.
The waves are carved under the base next to the himotoshi.
Period: Meiji end of 19th century.
Dimensions: 3.3 x 5 x 2 cm.
Conservation status: Excellent condition.
In China, older age was/is respected and valued...
During the late Qing Dynasty, many wealthier Chinese used eyeglasses to appear older...sometimes clear glass lenses were used for those with good eyesight
Personally, I never colored my hair before traveling to China....
This eyeglass case was carved from water buffalo horn...It has the original hand twisted string and a small movable stop....
and a few minor scratches from use and age
Magnificent, very rare wood Bugaku dance mask depicting the Dragon King, Ryo-o. Mounted on a round frame covered on silver leaf paper. Ca. 1820. The mask has a bristling moustache and beard, 4 teeth and a hanging moveable chin piece. The top has a dragon carved. All was lacquered. A similar mask is on exhibit at the British Museum.
Bugaku is a courtly ritual dance which has survived in Japan since the Heian Period, Ca. 794-1185...
Fine annamese vietnamese blue and white charger, decorated with floral motif surrounded by clasic petal border on the center, classic scroll around rim. On the exterior, petal lappets enclose hanging scrolls. Unglazed base with thin iron brown wash. PERIODE : 15 th Century CONDITION : a chip on the foot rim, no cracks or hairlines and free from restorations. MEASURE : 38 cm diameter. 9 cm height.
Wonderful white Raku Chawan with a barley seen notched foot and highly sophisticated form. It was made in the Kaei Era 4, which is the year 1851 during the Japanese Edo Period...
Two very unique and richly painted Chinese porcelain hat stands of the late 19th century. Charming scenes of the traditional family relaxing in an open garden setting, the garments are painted in various bright colors against a backdrop of nature. Condition is excellent with no hairlines or chips, just some minor rubbing of the gold trim and very trace fading of the details, yet all details are distinct and complete. These measure 11" high x 4.5" diameter.
