An attractive Japanese Arita porcelain square dish with canted corners, decorated with an oversized sage lost in reverie by a lake. The unusual borders completely painted with figures in a landscape. Late 18th ~ early 19th century.

A very large pair of hardwood transom / temple architectural elements, elaborately carved with charming motifs of squirrels eating from grape vines. The carvings are deeply recessed with raised outside edges of a scrolling form. Realistic grape vines and leaves continue along the underside of each transom. Very heavy. Distorted shoe shaped (kutsugata) tea bowl with a flaring mouth made of light, coarse, unrefined Mino clay. The expertly thrown body was trimmed with a potters knife in its lower part and its brim. It dates back to the early Edo Period (1603-1868).

It is covered with a very deep black iron oxide glaze inside and outside. A 'window' on the side has been left unglazed and is decorated with two fish nets hung for drying...

Silk crepe cloth with beautiful embroidery of wisteria motif which is one of the long sleeves (furisode). The ground cloth is white silk crepe (chirimen) and the embroidery threads are vegetable dye. It has kata-kanoko (stencil-dye pattern) imitating small shibori pattern named kanoko shibori. In excellent condition except for a light brownish line in the center. 19th century Japanese ojime (slide bead for tightening the cord going from netsuke to inro) carved out of a fruit pit as a mother monkey eating a fruit with 3 babies loitering in her arms while a teenager climbed on her back and is eating a smaller fruit on her head. Wonderfully captured mood of the scene, very nice carving with great level of detail, wonderful faces, pleasant mellow patina. Height 1 inch.

19th century ojime (slide bead for tightening the cord going from netsuke to inro) carved as seated shishi with its mouth open and containing a small ball, and its front paw on a large rock. Japanese late 19th or early 20th century bronze OKIMONO of a ram done in the style of Imperial Court artist, ISHIKAWA KOUMEI or MITSUAKI. The ram is done in fine detail. The OKIMONO is signed on the bottom by the artist, KOUMEI. The OKIMONO measures 10 1/4" wide, 7" deep and 7 1/8" tall.

Very beautifully sculpted in the mass of bamboo, the decoration in gold lacquer and polychrome represents 2 Tengu (Japanese legendary creature or demon) under a pine pointing with a finger a vajra (ritual Hindu and Buddhist object, representation of the lightning and the indestructibility...). Japanese 17th/18th century scroll painting of a buddhist priest, outlined in a very rare style of incredibly tiny calligraphy mantra. The mantra repeats "Amida Butsu Nam Mo". The meditating priest holds a strand of mala beads and a willow branch and is seated upon a green lotus throne on clouds. The figure is most likely "Dengyo Daishi", the monk who brought Buddhism into Japan.

This is natural indigo dyeing Shirusi-Hanten made at the beginning of the Meiji period. This gets texture and others by cotton and silk. As for this, cotton and silk are spun by hand. It is rare that Shirusi-Hanten is woven by cotton and silk. Most are only cotton. This has fading with several places of a few holes, but the state is good. This was sewed for a child again.
