This unusually shaped carved bone snuff bottle is a late Meiji period (1867~1911) product. It is 2 3/4” long, 1 ¼” wide and ¾” thick. It depicts a curled shrimp as the body of snuff bottle. The bamboo spoon is a replacement. It has a great patina and is in great condition.

This large Japanese late Meiji (1867~1911) ivory carving is 14 ¼” high, 4” wide and 2 ¾” in depth. It depicts a smiling sage carrying a fan in his left hand and holding a long staff in his right hand. A rolled up scroll is tied to the top of the staff. Aside from a few hair line cracks due to age and size, it is in good condition. More detailed photos are available.

Pair kesi badges without rank insignia. With background only, we assume this must either mean it was for a student candidate not yet with rank or perhaps awaiting the addition of rank insignia (if it was appropriate to embroider or stitch onto a kesi badge.) We have included photos of the front and of the back with lining lifted to reveal the kesi technique including varied gold metallic thread. Condition is fair to good...

Japanese lacquered tray with the view of Tagonoura and Mt. Fuji with various Japanese motifs surrounding the image. Taka makie is used to create the effect on Mt. Fuji and hira makie is used to paint the motifs surrounding the landscape. On the bottom is the name of the studio: Sato. Age: Late 19th to early 20th century. These were made by a doting Chinese grandmother in the early 1900's...Absolutely charming set of matching hat and shoes for young child with lots of intricate embroidery details. I will not break up this set....

Dramatic Japanese Boy's Day Banner depicting the warrior Kashiwade no Hanoshi defeating a tiger. Colorful paste resist dyed and painted cotton. Tall banner with two mon (crests) at the top. One mon is the fuji (wisteria) of the Fujiwara family or possible of a family expressing devotion to the Kumano Shrine also associated with the wisteria motif. Meiji Period. The fans mirror each other with their elaborate pierced designs of two fenghuang (phoenix) birds flying with a sun between them and lucky bats flying above their heads. Large bronze vase depicting an egret, in relief, on a perch in the center of a watercourse, surrounded by four swimming fish. The figure of the egret emerges from the vase with remarkable three-dimensionality and depth. Signature engraved under the base within a rectangular reserve. Antique Japanese Bronze candle stick decorated with incised key lock pattern on base, middle and top. Meiji period 1868-1912. They measure 3.5" wide at base, 12" tall.

This pair of marked Guang Xu Period (1875~1908) Famille Rose plates are 1 inch deep and 6 ¾ inches in diameter. They depict a long-tail bird and butterfly in a flower garden. The workmanship is wonderful. The gold edging has worn off slightly. There is one small hairline crack in one plate and an old repair in the other one.
