Etruscan bucchero olpe with ovoid body, truncated conical neck and lightly flared lip. The strap handle arching from rim to shoulder. Standing on a low ring base.
Bucchero ware was the distinct local pottery type of ancient Etruria. The black clay was created reducing the supply of oxygen in the smoke-filled atmosphere of the kiln.
Rasmussen type 1b. The shape is fairly popular in bucchero for a short time period.

Chinese 18th Century bronze censer with Xuande mark. 13,5 cm mouth diameter. 18,5 cm wide from ear to ear. 8,3 cm high. Censer in good condition except mouth has smooth dent maybe. but maybe from original cast because no dent at the body.
Shell mounted on a silver base. Chinese work made for export? From memory I seem to recall that a pair of identical cups were presented at the V&A in the 90s. The shell is held by silver nuts in the shape of a butterfly, it rests on a grove of 3 silver bamboos. The whole rests on a finely worked wooden base. The other nuts are in the shape of clover. The whole is finely worked and chiselled. Beautiful finish. Extremely rare object. Very certainly end of the 18th century...
Big "Tunkou" of Kaishan, he who "Opens the mountain", clears it; God of mountains with a terrifying face (horns, fangs) who leads the procession during the ceremony organised for the clearing of a new field or building of a new rice field; his fierce face is intended to repulse the bad spirits (and the dangerous wild animals?).
Tunkou or "Mouth who swallows" the demons, the bad spirits; terrifying mask for hanging on the Nuo temple's door or above the main altar...

Fabulous celebratory Shinto Shrine gable carving Ca. 1850. Carved from keyaki wood, the sixteen petal chrysanthemum is the crest or mon (紋) of the Japanese emperor and is often seen displayed on Shinto shrines throughout the country. This chrysanthemum is framed by a 'Noshi" a celebratory wrapping for gifts. This carving must have been for a new shrine. Great condition. Length: 35";H: 12"; depth: 3". Chinese Qing dynasty compressed bombe form tripod censer with flat rim covered overall in an olive-brown glaze (possibly a celadon variant) that drips over the mouth and down the body leaving the interior and base unglazed. Moulded bats extend around the circumference and two animal mask handles are at the sides. Bagua symbols are in relief on the top. 3 1/8” – 3 1/2" high x 6” diameter of the top rim. Possibly early Qing and no later than 19th century...

A Jiaqing mark and period circular dish, covered in a rich and bubbly cobalt blue glaze. Surface wear suggest that this dish had once been gilt-decorated with a dragon among clouds. The roughly written mark is typical for non-official wares of this period.
