Nyonya wares are over-glaze polychrome enamelled porcelains made in Jingdezhen in the Kiangsi province of China for the Straits Chinese, or Babas, whose female counterparts are called Nyonyas, hence the term Nyonya ware. This traditional embroidered vest was made and worn by the woman of the Miao minority culture living in the Ge Jia region of China generations ago. The textile fabric was hand woven with a specific thread count to allow for the geometric embroidery pattern which was added later.
Over a jet black ground, a single butterfly flutters among clusters of chrysanthemums on this unsigned 3.625" silver wired vase. The upper rim is of brass, the bottom copper.
Condition: Minimal pitting, no hairlines or repairs.
The quilted lower portion of the vamp indicates that this pair of shoes are from northern China, and the shape of the heel dates them to before 1910. Clearly somewhat used, they are a wonderful artifact of a time and cultural practice from the past.

This is han-jyuban in Edo period(1800-1867). Silk tsumugi itajime of the safflower dye is an arabesque motif in the lion. The shoulder surrounding is scenery of the travel (Tokaido) in Edo period. A Ming dynasty blue and white bowl which found often in Indonesia archipelago especially in South Sulawesi. Early 16th century exported from Ming era. Condition with a tiny chip, otherwise is perfect with no any other chip, no any cracks and free from any restoration. Diameter: 14,5 cm.
The stone has a lustrous patina and has a very dramatic ‘splash’ of red on both sides. It has never been carved with a designation and the base has now a shallow flake as a result of an impact on the edge, with a little powdery material showing. Further along there is a tiny bruise to the edge. These could be taken out by reducing the length by 0.4cm. Personally the chip does not worry me...
