Antique Japanese cylindrical hibachi made of bent suginoki (cryptomeria) and decorated with a maki-e lacquer scene of a family of chickens in a bamboo grove. The mother hen and two chicks look for food on the ground while their father rooster looks back at his third little chick. Coffee pots like this were used across northern Africa from Morocco to Saudi Arabia. These "Dallah" coffee pots would have been used to make the traditional Qawha and Khaleeji coffees. Figure of Li Teguai / Li T’ieh-Kuai, one of the eight Chinese immortals. Biscuit, enamelled in the Famille rose palette except for the naked parts which are painted in a matted skin shade. Unmarked, probably c 1900. Height "5 /12.5 cm. Condition: a glaze flake to the red part of the cloud, otherwise fine.

An original pair of plaster Japanese Inari temple foxes. Crushed oyster shell finish with mineral paint detailing in traditional Shinto colorways : orange, purple, green. Each of the foxes has a soft pink underbelly. Wonderful original and complete condition. Each fox sits atop a base as a single piece.
