Incredible Antique Japanese kannon biraki tansu (storage chest with hinged doors) made of hinoki (Japanese cypress) wood with original deep brown lacquer finish. The interior consists of 10 drawers of various sizes made all of kiri (paulownia) wood. Each drawer has a square lock (with key) and warabite shaped drawer pulls. Extensive hand forged iron hardware on the exterior includes 9 hinges on each door, cross bracing and two locks (with key). Original finish and condition...

19th century Chinese incense stick holder made out of rootwood in a shape of a buffalo with the front of its body turned to the right. Very clever piece with minimal carving beautifully capturing the essence of the animal, graceful flow to the natural lines of the root. Beautiful mellow patina, very pleasant feel of age to the piece. Metal fitting on the back to hold an incense stick. Excellent item for a scholar’s desk or an altar. Height with metal fixture 5 5/8 inches.

Nice Victorian brass ladies' lace-up boot. This example has holes drilled to represent the holes for laces. The Victorians often placed these along their mantles for purely decorative purposes.

Very old and wonderful carved wood figure of the buddhist god Fudo Myoo, he stands with laso in one hand and sword in the other, made of wood with mineral pigments, glass eyes, metal details including sword, large and dramatic with fire nimbus, Muromachi Period, inscription on the back of nimbus says Yuwayadera (name of temple), nimbus is signed that it was restored by Minamoto Haruhisa April 16, 1560. The body is painted with 2 scenes of a bamboo grove and various flowers and morning mist painted with gold enamel, with design continuing on the cover. No chips, cracks or repairs. Antique Chinese bronze tripod censer, with lions' heads for handles and beautiful hand-scribed calligraphy on its front over a textured ground. The four characters on the bronze read "to keep and appreciate forever". The signature is dated the ninth year of Guangxu (1884). Some family members dedicated this to their deceased ancestor's 70th birthday. The first two characters are the name of an island in a fairy tale, inhabited by immortals. The last two characters mean "love spring"...

Large bronze bracelet of flat shape decorated on one side with several geometric designs inside which are remnants of silver inlays, and on the other side with a series of squarish incised geometric designs which must have contained silver inlays, now gone. Philippines Archipelago, Mindanao Island, 19th century, maybe earlier. Diameter: 4 7/8" (12,5 cm). A small dent on the outer rim, otherwise good condition. Collected in the Philippines in 1978. A rather rare piece.
