A very rare set of (probably) English 9-7/8" plates in a variant of the original Blue Willow pattern. We haven't been able to accurately identify this pattern with its distinctive border butterflies in our books, however they are definitely Georgian. The porcelain is the expected light gray and the decoration is slightly blurred and each plate has the expected frit and minor variations from the manufacture of these items...

A wonderful Victorian ironstone footed fruit compote decorated in an underglaze blue floral pattern. Distinctly Asian in flavor, the pattern depicts prunus blossoms and peonies surrounded by rocky outcroppings, foliage and hovering butterflies. The edges are finished in a diaper border. Either end has a leafy handle, heavily accented with gilding similar in style to that found on Old Paris porcelains. The overall shape and use of gilding suggests an early date. A superb quality very large pottery figure of a male attendant or official, dating to the earlier Ming Dynasty, 1400-1500 AD.

The figure is placed on a high hexagonal plint and wears a fine two-colour blue and turquoise glazed robe. The unglazed areas have pigmented colors in red, black and white. Finely painted facial details.

The head is attachable as often seen on the largest figures from this period.

Vue d'une Ancienne Abbaye Staffordshire historical plate by Enoch Wood. Circa 1825. This pearlware plate is decorated in a dark blue transfer and is from the "French series." It has a grape vine border and bears on the back the pottery's factory impressed mark WOOD as well as the pattern name in an underglaze blue stamp. Size: 9" diameter. Condition: Very good with a couple of very small pin sized flecks to the glaze and some fine crazing.

This round inkstone was carved out of a naturally occurring layered stone...both the bottom and cover viewed from the side show the striation of the stone.The covered has a pond design etched with raised koi fish. It is really lovely. The inkstone is just over 4 inches in diameter and .8 inches in height.

Very unusual late 19th century Japanese lacquer small table screen decorated on both sides with tsuba (Japanese sword guards). Excellent clever work with different lacquer colors and textures imitating rusting iron and cleaner silvery surfaces of different tsuba. Beautiful carved textured surface of the rest of the screen with lower layer of red lacquer and upper layer of tan colored one. Wonderful patina, in excellent condition. Height 6 7/8 inches (17.5 cm), maximum length 10 inches (25 cm).

Fine Chinese Song Dynasty Glazed Stoneware Jar (Dragon Chasing Pearl)

This interesting stoneware jar was made during the Song Dynasty (AD 960 -1279). It is quite "heavily-potted" with deep ridges to the body and the applied decoration around the shoulder featuring a dragon chasing a pearl. A healthy round-faced, plump figured, seated boy wearing a typical high hat of boy doll figures of the period. He is also wearing a checker-patterned loincloth. His hands are positioned under his chin, where he is holding his hat ties together. The stoneware was formed with a mold (you can see the faint molding line on both sides and underneath--it is not a crack.) The surface has a natural patina from age. Age: Late 19th Century. Very interesting Roman pottery oil lamp with a Roman empress or high born lady on the discus, ca. mid 2nd. century AD.

The lamp can be dated quite accurately since the hairstyle of the lady is from the period of Hadrian-Antoninus Pius, so no later than 170 AD.

Size: 12 cm. a large and quite massive lamp.

Condition: Very nice and intact, with traces of corrosion.

This porcelain plate was produced in England by Wedgwood around 1850. It has the name “Wedgwood” impressed in block letters. It measures 8 ½ inches in diameter. It is made of fine bone china that has the design molded in high relief. The design has stylized fruits and berries hand painted in metallic colors and colorful enamel. This porcelain oil lamp was produced in England by the Copeland Factory in the late 18th or early 19th century. There are no markings on this piece but we have seen the exact design on other items identified from the Copeland factory. Scarce and beautiful early type of pottery Oil lamp, Roman late 1st. century AD.

The lamp is of the Loeschcke Typus VIII and displays a scene with Hercules with bow and club on the discus. Very high relief! Finely stamped with makers or workshop name: CIVA.ALE(?)
