Antique Japanese carved burlwood round container decorated with blooming hibiscus flowers and a canary perched on a branch. The carvings are finely incisised details with relief ridges defining leaf veins, stamen, and petal edges. A central round medallion decorates the bttom of the inner chamber. The carvings on the lid of the box match up with the base. It measures 7" in diameter, 5.75" tall. Late Meiji, 1868-1912, or early Taisho period, 1912-1926.

An unusual pair of large iron shears with a wonderful surface. Excellent condition and movement. 16 inches long by 5 inches wide.

This is the Noren used at the ship merchant's house on the Japan Sea side of the Edo Period. It has Mount Fuji, a merchant ship and a family crest. The merchant ship is stylized. This is dyed with indigo. This is Tsutsugaki cotton. There are two small holes, but they are not outstanding. There is a place where a thread came off a little. The back is fading. Antique Korean three section lacquer cabinet, with elaborate inlaid scenes of various birds, deer, fish, and flowers. Auspicious creatures with fish tails, turtle shells, and the head of mammals are also seen in several panels. Brass hardware decorates the pieces such as butterfly shaped lockplates and hinges. A pair of silk applique roundels for a robe mounted on paper, embroidered in Peking knot and gold thread. Showing auspicious symbols and bats, dating to the late Qing period. Condition: slightly faded. Dimension: 20 cm diameter.

Belle Epoque Rococo 950 silver jardiniere centerpiece, ca 1900. Bombe oval bowl with wide and tapering rim. Embossed twisted fluting and applied round frames (vacant) with scallop shell crown supported by winged cherubs. Elaborate end handles, each with cast figure of lunging cherub, holding drapery in one hand and flowers in the other, between leaf-wrapped double-scrolls. Four leaf-mounted scroll supports. A sumptuous homage to the 18th century. Detachable brass liner...

A underglaze blue hand painted blue and white export plate depicting three sprigs of flowers enclosed in a lobed border with fleur- de-lis and on the outer border a loosely painted fence. The outer edge is painted brown. Given the vague Western references in the decoration the plate is probably after 1750. 8 7/8th inches (22.5 cm) diameter.

Condition: No chips, cracks, hairlines or repairs. Very minor stacking wear...

Impressive Blackstone stele of Surya the Sungod, Pala period, 10th.-11th. cent. AD.

A carving in grey-black stone depicting Surya holding lotuses, riding a chariot drawn by seven horses, each depicting a day of the week and named after the seven meters of Sanskrit prosody, Gayatri, Brihati, Ushnih, Jagati, Trishtubha, Anushtubha and Pankti...

Only a wealthy Chinese woman would have been able to own this rare antique silk headband. Decorating each side of the headband are mirror images of an ornament depicting a bird and using the prized Kingfisher bird feathers. Intergrated with each kingfisher bird ornament is a finely embroidered bird on a branch.

A wonderful lot of three very nice bronze antiquities!

Lot includes a lovely finial of a bronze rooster with a scorpios tail (!), quite unusual and beautifully sculptured for the medium, redish patina and 8,3 cm. tall. Another stylized rooster finial in bronze 5,5 cm., both Islamic Khorassan style, ca. 10th.-12th. century AD and a very interesting intact clasp in bronze with a finely modelled Lions mask on the front, still wearable today, 5,5 cm.
