4 pieces of Nara Uchiwa whose history dates back to Nara period (A.D.710~794). It began as manual side line work of the Shinto priest of Kasuga Taisha Shrine in Nara. The traditional motifs (Tenpyo Moyo) such as peonix, deer, kylin (imaginary animal), dragon, Parrot etc. These four (originally five) were made by Ikeda Gankodo which is only existing maker of it in Nara. An unframed old watercolor painting of tall trees in a Japanese forest, 19 1/2" by 13", signed at lower right by listed artist TOKUSABURO KOBAYASHI (1884-1949). There is old Japanese yellowed newspaper from THE HOCHI SHIMBUN used as cushioning between the watercolor paper and the old wood backing panel. Kobayashi was active in the first part of the century as a watercolorist. Frame with archival materials to enjoy this fine watercolor of a (cedar?) forest.

This is an exquisite example of Japanese Cloisonne mounted on a silver-plated form. As the images show, The wire and wireless enameling are superb. Condition is also outstanding. It stands 8 inches tall and is 7 1/2 inches wide. We never seen another like this one.

This 1930’s ivory carpenter is 9 ¼” high, 3 ¼” wide and 3 ¼” thick. It depicts a smiling carpenter carrying a wood bucket and cloth bag on his right arm and holding a saw in his left hand. His tool boxes are set in front of him. The artist’s signature “Gyokushi” is on the bottom. It is a well carved piece in great condition.
