Traditional geometric designs embroidered on a plain weave cotton animate this Hazara cloth from Afghanistan measuring 33 x 39 cm.
Cross stitch in multicolored silk thread form an interlocking star pattern. Condition of the textile is excellent. Estimated age: late 20th century. The Hazara are the third largest ethnic group in Afghanistan, inhabiting mostly Bamiyan province but also Orugzan and Ghazni provinces.
The Chinese excel at modeling horses, and this example is not exception. It is a soapstone carving of a horse running wild, its mane flying in the wind. The greyish-white stone is punctuated with russet tinting. Excellent condition, and mounted on grey-white plinth.

Shonai-obi hand-woven of wash yarn (Japanese handmade paper) for weft and cotton yarn for warp. It is produced in Shonai region in Yamagata prefecture in Tohoku district. A densely beaded woman's dress panel made by Kuchi nomads from Afghanistan, probably dating to the mid to late 20th century. Woven glass seed beads attached to a cloth background at the top, overlaid by a second layer with twisted acrylic threads and beaded tassles. Several layers of fabric at the top make this piece stiff and sturdy. This panel measures 11¼ x 21 inches...

Unique Japanese okimono of the head of 'Tengu' (Long-nosed goblin), originally an wooden mold used for making a paper-mache tengu head (because of such back cutting scar for removing paper-mache head out),
then vermilion-painted after retired to lead a second life, Taisho-Showa period, early-mid 20th century, approx. 18 x 18 x Depth 19cm (7.08 x 7.08 x 7.48in). Aged deterioration, uneven paint appearance, crack, exfoliation, etc...
Small food dish for vegetables, relish etc. of round shape with small indentations in the rim. Thin, light colored stoneware, covered in cream-colored glaze with very fine crackle and pinkish brown swirls. In the bottom a highly stylized kotobuki character (longevity) in iron brown and three green glaze splashes on the rim. Glazes have left a few spots uncovered. Oribe ware, Japan, early Taisho era, 1920s.
