A scholar taste Chinese Jade ink stone. The stone is a nephrite jade in the form of a flat craggily gonshi stone. The use of the stone, which has inclusions would be used to hold colored ink or water. The reverse side is to grind ink stick. Often scholar objects reflect details from nature and would incorporate them in their study.

An antique Chinese porcelain water coup glazed in a baby blue hued glaze. The bottom of the coup contains an inscription reading: Da Qing Guanxu Nianxin or Produced During the Reign of Emperor Guangxu , age 1875-1908. Size: Diameter 4" Height 1.3"

A splendid Chinese celadon brush holder formed in the style of a scholar rock. The crackled glaze along with the celadon is a classical style that began during the Song dynasty and became popular among the ruling elite. A very attractive late 19th century first standard (950/1000 pure silver) wine taster by Parisian silversmith Louis Coignet. The tastevin is decorated in the Bourgogne style with an applied handle in snake form. The serpent is beautifully decorated with engraved scales and eyes. The sides are enhanced with repousse and chased decoration of grape clusters and vine leaves. A floral decorated milk jug and floral decorated cover with a rose and leaves finial. The potting of the jug is fairly heavy at the bottom, the decoration of a fairly elaborate boquet and a simpler one on the other side is complimented by the yellow painted rims and decoration on the handle. Vincennes and Sevres had a monopoly on using gilt decoration so that other French factories had to use paint where they might have used gilding. Height approx. 5 ¾ inches...

A large heavy bottle vase depicting two confronting five clawed dragons amongst clouds and flames and above breaking waves. The base carries the six character seal mark of the Qianlong Emperor (1736-1795)but possibly made later during the 19th Century. It arrived in the UK before 1910 and is from an old West Country estate. Condition - the neck has been reduced and polished. There are no chips or cracks and there has been no restoration but there are surface scratches...
