Wine rinsers or wine washers were used to cool or rinse wine glasses between courses of meals. At formal meals of this type, beer or ale would not be served. Therefore, the engraving of hops and barley on this rinser is very unusual and a bit inexplicable, as this type engraving was specifically used on ale glasses. The rinser is 3 1/2" tall and 4' in diameter.
Antique Japanese tetsubin (kettle for heating water for tea) made of cast iron and decorated with a dragon in swirling clouds. The highly raised design depicts a dragon curling itself around the body of the pot. The clouds over hang in a ledge above the base. There is a large raised cartouche on the back underneath this ridge. The lid is made of bronze.

This a rare set made by Heisey Glass Company. All pieces are etched with two polo player designs. Includes 12" decanter and 6 cordials and 6 lowball glasses. Excellent condition. Japanese Black Lacquered on woven Bamboo and hinged top Trunk with wooden frame for strength and Black Iron hardware, Ca. Meiji, 1880's, 22" high, 31" wide, 16" deep, Red lacquered leaf shape mon decoration with Kanji Characters, original woven rope handle in the back, and original Rice Paper lining inside. Some black lacquer finish pieces are off from the woven Bamboo surface.
A rare set of hors d'oeuvres (nut or sweet) dishes, in fitted hardwood box, painted in black ink in Qianjiang style. The bases of the nine dishes are unglazed. This set was probably made in the second half of the 19th Century during the reign of either the Tongzhi (1863-1874)or the Guangxu emperor (1875-1908). Condition - very good - no chips,cracks or restoration, but, as is common with Qianjiang painting on porcelain, there is wear to the overglaze decoration of the dishes...
