19th century staghorn ojime (slide bead for tightening the cord going from netsuke to inro) carved in a shape of a man’s face, his mouth open in an incredibly wide yawn. Good design, nice patina on the surface, natural imperfections in staghorn, in excellent condition. Height 11/16 inches. Wooden stand used for photography is not included.

Antique Japanese storage tansu with locking bar, made of sugi (cryptomeria) wood with original deep reddish translucent lacquer finish, two large drawers lock by vertical locking bar with beautiful heavy iron hardware of a koi jumping up a waterfall, the drawers themselves have square iron handles and corner reinforcements in the form of raised seed pods...

An antique Japanese Gifu Mizuya (kitchen chest) made of Hinoki (Cypress) and Suginoki (Cryptomeria) with Kakinoki (Persimmon) wood drawer fronts and sliding door panels. All original bronze hand made hardware including handwoven bronze screen wire on the bottom sliding doors. Also, original etched glass on the center sliding doors. Small lift out door covers an additional storage area.

A good quality Antique, 19th century, Meiji Period, Japanese Kutani porcelain plate - dish, with a thick and heavy body, extremely well potted, and beautifully hand painted and enameled with peonies and birds. 19th century netsuke of an oni holding an octopus on its shoulder. Wonderful, probably unique subject, great carving, both characters bear a surprised expression, excellent patina. Height 1.6 inches

This is a diminutive portrayal of a crowned Buddhist figure, most likely a Bodhisattva, dating to circa the 6th century AD, Northern Qi dynasty. Note that the nose and areas of the forehead are darker than the rest of the stone, indicating that they have been rubbed by the hands of worshippers over the centuries, creating a "sweat stain" darkening of the stone...

Rare Black jade disc with an early representation of a dragon in the typical Han style. Age: Original Han piece. Size: Diameter 6.5cm. Condition: Some degradation. No brakes or repairs.

DESCRIPTION: An attractive oval brass box, the hinged lid decorated with a carved carnelian stone at the center with raised brass leaves on either side. Signed at the interior lid, such a box might have been used for snuff, jewelry, cosmetics or medicines. This attractive little box is in excellent condition and dates from the first quarter of the 20th C. DIMENSIONS: 2 ¼” long (5.7 cm) x 1 1/8” wide (2.9 cm) x 1” high (2.5 cm).

The Bouyi are a relatively small ethnic group- so embroideries from them have become quite scarce. The supplementary weft “well” patterned embroidery is silk except for the black medallions- the field is all handspun cotton. The black border is a later addition made from hand woven cotton. A pair lovely unmounted figural staves, unusually large and detailed for the type, comes with a deep natural patina from old age.

These two figures known as edan have been cast in brass over iron rods. Each is a seated figure of the opposite sex. They are linked by a chain attached to loops to the tops of their heads. The figures resemble Onile, the owner of the earth, in both male and female forms.

This is a superbly rendered watercolor on paper attributed to Henry Walton. The name of the sitter, John Andrew Jenny, is written in pencil at the top of the painting, in penmanship not unlike Walton's.

Mr. Jenny is a nice-looking young man wearing a black coat, with highlights in gum arabic. The style of the coat and the cravat place this portrait in the 1841-1844 time period...
