Elaborately handled server by Reed & Barton in the "Love Disarmed" pattern. It has the old hallmarks dating back to 1899. This piece is in excellent condition, the figure on the handle and all of the repousse work are very crisp. Originally an asparagus server, it can be used for so many things. It has lovely piercings on the flat portion, and it shows no wear.
It measures approximately 11.25" long and 3.75" at its widest. It weighs 255 grams. It is not monogrammed.
Beautiful Japanese kusuri medical tansu made of kiri wood (paulownia) and sugi side frames (Japanese cypress or cryptomeria). With warm original finish and hand forged hardware. Lacquer dark reddish, brown and mahogany tones that shows well in lighter and dark rooms. Total of 102 individual drawers.

Burmese Shan style Buddha, the slender figure with a triangular face and broad forehead, arching eyebrows, elongated ears, and small hair curls covering a low ushnisha that is surmounted by a bud-shaped finial. The red lacquered wood figure with gilt highlights is seated on a waisted lotus throne plinth with relief deer carvings in bhurmisparsa mudra (“calling the earth to witness”). Sterling silver sugar spoon with very fine decoration of a peacock amidst trailing foliage. The bowl is parcel gilt and is decorated with bright-cut engraving. The reverse is marked "Sterling". Before 1916, many American silversmiths did not mark their name on flatware.

This is a very unique copper alloy or bronze axe head. It is possibly Elamite in origin. It appears to be an early piece based on the reddish brown patina that is typical of high copper content pieces. It does appear to have been cleaned at some point. The socket is rectangular. There is a perforation on either side of the socket for attachment to the shaft pole. There is also a perforation in the rear blade which may or may not be original to the piece...
Antique Chinese pair of large joss stick incense holders. Made of porcelain in bell form. Decorated with painted designs of dragons, lingzhi and scrolling vines in red-orange overglaze standing out against a dramatic black ground. Each joss holder has four large dragon medallions, two on the top portion and two on the bottom. Around them is painted a variety of scrolling foliage...
Black-glazed dish of shallow form with thick wall, comprising a small offset between the rounded lip and the foot. Shallow rounded floor.
Warm brownish gloss with fingermarks around the base, where held during dipping. Black all over with reserved bottom.

Theriac or Mithridate lead seal, dating from the first years of the 17th century. Theriac (from a Greek word related to “wild beasts”) was a classic antidote, a mixture including snake flesh, opium, myrrh and minerals plus spices, adding up to more than 60 ingredients in all. This concoct is said to have been invented by Mithridates, an Anatolian king who lived in fear of being poisoned. Later it became the speciality of Venetian apothecaries...
