Exceptional fushi in shakudo inlaid with gold and sentoku ,recounting the legend of the warrior Hide Sato victorious over the giant Mokume. As a reward, the Dragon King Ryu-Jin presented him with a precious bell, an always hot cauldron and an inexhaustible sack of rice. Antique Japanese cloisonne jewelry/treasure box, made from bronze, with deep navy blue sides decorated with gold cloud shapes. The lid has a beautiful cloisonne landscape with overhanging cherry blossoms on tree branches, a tower and building with blue roofing, and a red bridge crossing over a running river. Pair of Edwardian Classical sterling silver candlesticks. Made by Barbour Silver Co. (part of International) in Hartford, ca 1910. Each: Tapering socket with flat and detachable bobeche; raised foot. Faceted. Engraved floral and zigzag bands. Lobed vertical frames. Reeded foot rim. Fully marked including Barbour and International stamps and retailer’s stamp (JE Caldwell) as well as no. 1317/29. This very well carved brush holder is an early 20th century product. On one side, it depicts six children playing with fire crackers during New Year; on the other side there is a big red character “Fu,” good luck. There are mountain and river scenes on the bottom inside and outside. It is almost 5” high, 4” wide and 3 ½” thick. It is in great condition aside from some old cracks.

A work so compositionally striking we chose it for the cover of the exhibition catalog by Shirakura Niho titled Baika Shoin Zu (The Plum Blossom Retreat). Pigment on silk in a silk border enclosed in the original signed wooden box. It is 55.5 x 127.5㎝ (21-3/4 x 50 inches) and is in excellent condition.

Silberiris glass vase by historic Loetz with engraved silver overlay. Globular with pinched shoulder and ruffled turned-down quatrefoil rim. On front overlay in form of loose and fluid blooms on entwined and whiplash stems. Back plain. Glass iridescent yellow, green, blue, and purple. Shimmering turn-of-the-century Art Nouveau.
