Wonderful to wear as a pendant this retractable pencil slides into an enameled gilded mummy. In the 1870s-1880s, the Egyptian Revival styles were in vogue as archaeological digs discovered ancient tombs that brought to light rare finds. Their motifs were incorporated into jewelry, objects, furniture, glass and pottery.
A Nepalese hand-carved wooden phurba, a Buddhist shamanic dagger used as a religious implement. It has four faces carved at the top with a bird carved into its blade. The wood has a smoothed patina and natural wear from ritualistic use.

With lovely fluted accents, ebonized handles and finials on ball feet; marked "CAMEO" "EPNS" and "MADE IN SHEFFIELD, ENGLAND" and consisting of a coffee pot, tea pot, kettle on stand, creamer, open sugar, and waste bowl. A Japanese bulbous shaped bronze censer on four supports. There is a rectangular, three characters mark on the bottom - "Cast by Suiun". 19th Century. Japanese 6-Panel byobu folding screen, with painting of a flowering wheat field under the full moon. The screen's paper hinges are done in gold gofun paper. Excellent condition, very presentable well suited for the times. The screen bears elements related to the Shijo School, hand-signed signature, with two red chops, attributed to Shiokawa Bunrin (1808-1877).

This ancient Egyptian Scarab, c. 1200 BC, is from the famous Mitry collection (see our Homepage). It is 7/16” long (11 mm) and made of steatite, an easy-to-carve stone that hardens when heated. Scarabs empowered life and resurrection and were often placed under mummy wrappings to protect the body and help it resurrect. This Scarab comes in a jewelry display cup.
Late Meiji - early Taisho (1910s-1920s) netsuke of Kanon - the Boddhisattva of Compassion - standing on a base, her hands in front of her in praying attitude. Well carved, nicely etched design of a flowering bush with a butterfly on the back of her robe. Signed GEKKOKU on the bottom - the artist is listed on p. 400 of NETSUKE & INRO ARTISTS AND HOW TO READ THEIR SIGNATURES by George Lazarnick. Height 2 3/8 inches.
