This very well carved Japanese ivory okimono is a late 19th century product. It is 5 1/2” high, 2 3/4” wide and 2 1/4″ thick measured from the bottom. It depicts a smiling farmer holding a bundle of fresh cut lotus roots which are wrapped and bound in a straw sheet. The facial expression is very realistic. The short robe with willow tree design indicates it is either spring or summer which is the right season for harvesting lotus roots...

This peach shape 19th century cinnabar box is 4 inches high and 8 inches wide. The carved scene depicts one person riding a horse and two other people on foot in the foreground. This antique Chinese box would have been used during the Qing dynasty, possibly by a scholar or shop keeper. The bottom of this box has covered compartments for seals, chops,calligraphy brush, ink sticks and a built in inkstone. There is an abacus built into the lid.

The original hinge pin was lost and has been replaced. The box was made with large dovetail joints and from a hard wood of unknown origins. The outside is dirty and I have not cleaned it...

This late 19th century Chinese famille-rose water jar is 2 ¾ inches tall and 2 ¾ inches wide. It depicts five boys in a procession. The first two boys are holding banners and gongs. The third is holding a lantern. The forth child is dressed in red and is riding a Qilin (a Chinese legendary animal which has a dragon head and ox body). This boy carries a puppet. The last boy is holding a fancy umbrella. The workmanship is excellent and it is in great condition.
