Chinese Qing dynasty elm wood rice chest. A removable top panel opens to reveal a single large storage area. Late 19th century. 33 ½”H x 28 ¼”W x 21 7/8”D. Very good overall condition with a natural finish. This piece is from the private collection of American expatriates who lived in Hong Kong in the 1970s and 1980s. This is a unique Chinese Trousse. The chopsticks are black wood, presumed to be Zitan and are totally enclosed inside the scabbard when the trousse is closed. Both the scabbard and knife handle are covered with tortoise shell and have silver fittings.

Antique Chinese bamboo arm rest with carvings depicting a deer rests on a rock under a tree with lingzhi in his mouth. 19th Century. The arm rest is in good antique condition. Length: 7-3/4"; width: 2-1/2".

A wonderful example of an original Japanese Armored Safe chest. Constructed of hand selected and quartered sawn keyaki (zalkova hardwood) and hand forged iron hardware / fittings. Thick hinged door opens to reveal 4 individual drawers with secret compartment located under the largest (bottom) drawer. Internal drawers are made of original light kiri (paulownia) wood.

Antique Japanese dramatic large incensor, multi-color glaze decorated with scenes of beautiful maidens and flowers. Meiji Period (19 century). Size: 15.5" height x 12.5" wide diameter.

Round in shape and very decorative on a white porcelain base, the decoration, in polychromy of iron red, underglaze blue and gold enamels, represents a lake landscape with boats under sail and a mountainous background in the background. Period: Meiji (1868-1912). Diameter: 31 cm.

A nice lacquer screen mirror used by Scholars in their work tables. The mirror is surrounded by the usual key fret design while the base is carved with the auspicious melon, peony and peach, representing longevity and prosperity. The mirror looks like it is the original mirror. Size: H. 62.5cm. W. at the base, 41.5cm. Condition: No repairs. Normal wear and some age cracks.

DESCRIPTION: A long, six-sided Chinese ink stick with nicely detailed dragon and phoenix curling about the surface. Short, impressed Chinese inscriptions are found on two sides. One of the four treasures of the scholar's studio, ink sticks (or cakes) would be carefully ground by the scholar and mixed with water on an inkstone to paint calligraphy or scrolls with a brush. This black ink stick is in good antique condition. DIMENSIONS: 6 1/2" long (16.5 cm) x 1 1/4" diameter (3.2 cm).

19th century marine material ojime (slide bead for tightening the cord going from netsuke to inro) carved as seated shishi with its mouth open and containing a loose ball, and its front paw on a large ball. Excellent carving - see its ferocious face and hairwork. Beautiful wear, wonderful warm patina, in excellent condition. Signed OSEI on the bottom - the artist is listed on p. 855 of NETSUKE & INRO ARTISTS AND HOW TO READ THEIR SIGNATURES by George Lazarnick. Height 3/4 inches.

Antique Chinese jade carving of a recumbent horse. Seated on it's haunches, it's hooves curved underneath it's body, the horse looks back over it's shoulder. Details of face, main and tail accent the pleasing arch of the horse's neck. Carved of yellow and brown mottled jade.

A pair of Chinese porcelain bowls decorated with iron-red enamel depicting two dragons chasing a fire ball. Four characters studio mark "Fu You Tang Zhi" inside the foot rims. 19th century. Condition: One bowl is in perfect condition; the other has a chip on foot rim, and four very fade hairlines on the rim, the longest one is about one inch, there might be small chips accompanying the hairline and now be professionally restored.
