A large Kansai area issho tansu made from keyaki and sugi woods. Copper handles are used on the sliding door panels and a special cabinet with a lock is set on the bottom area of the chest. Tansu such as these were often placed in the private quarters of the home and clothes, family documents, and important objects were placed inside. DESCRIPTION: A fine smoked bamboo ikebana basket woven in a tall ovoid form with entwined bamboo handle. The basket is crafted with a vertical diagonal weave from both wide and narrow splints in contrasting colors. This sturdy and handsome basket has a beautiful aged patina with no losses detected; early 20th century. DIMENSIONS: 18 ½” high x 8 ¾” diameter.

The landscape is portraying the view of the noted Song Dynasty literati scholar, Su Dongpo having a boat ride at Red Cliff. The motif is based on a hand scroll written by Su Dongpo reminiscing of the fun he had with his friends and the poems that were composed. A Yuan dynasty longquan celadon large dish, rounded side with raised flat rim and glazed base, dish decorated with carved large flower motif at interior and vertical ribbing suggesting flower petal motif at inner wall, dish covered with green glaze, semi porcelain with nice crackled glaze.

Chimu Goldball Necklace. Circa 1000 A.D. – 1200 A.D. 28” total lenght.
76 grams total weight. Composed of high karat gold beads including fourteen large, lentoid-ball beads, each interspersed with a medium size gold bead and sixty-four small gold beads. Several of the large beads have dents and evidence of crushing and small holes along the central soldering seam. Modernly strung, suitable for wearing.
