Two pieces of very nice and symbolic shard from the Ming dynasty. The first shard to the left, has a coin design in the centre of the bowl with the lotus lappet surrounding it. The second shard, to the right, shows a lotus flower in full bloom. The lotus is considered a scared flower to the buddhist - a symbol of purity and perfection. Two lotus decorated small plates for everyday use, so-called Minyao ware. Ming style but Jiaqing period (1796-1820), both with owner's mark in the well. Exportation lacquer seal to one plate, under-glaze blue seal mark to both. Diameter "5¾/ 14,5 cm. Condition: fine.

A dish of plain everted form measuring seven suns in diameter and decorated in somenishikide style with a traditional kacho-ga pattern of a pair of Butterflies and a Rock Peony. An auspicious pattern symbolising harmony and prosperity. The reverse decorated with scattered Peony leaf sprigs and the base is plain. The dish dating to circa 1780-1800.

Strand of Khmer glass beads circa 11th to 12th century. Generically classified as Indo Pacific Trade Beads, these were sourced in Cambodia. Small porcelain Vietnamese shipwreck recovery water dropper in the shape of an elephant. The glaze has dissolved after so long under the water but the body is intact. This is most likely from the Cau Ma shipwreck, circa 1775, discovered off the coast of Vietnam. No chips or damage. L: 6.2cm/3.2in and H: 5cm/2in.
These are two wooden miniature Fudos ( Cetaka ) who is the incarnate of Dainichi Nyorai, the highest ranking Buddha. It is said that he can change evil minds of demons and make them good. He has an expression of rage, holding a sword in the right hand, the kensaku ( originally a trap for birds or small animals ) in the left hand ( Both are lost of these Fudos ). Unusual Miao embroidered central panel, of a wedding apron costume. There is a coiled dragon in the center with two phoenixes above- surrounded with longevity characters, anthropomorphic and zoomorphic figures. It has a tattered calendered silk black border silk weft embroidered all the threads are handspun. The orange dye has bled into the white field some, so please see enlargements. Coral red tea bowl and saucer, the bowl with rocky landscapes in blue, green and black in reserves, the saucer with the same decoration depicted on a paper scroll. Nice old antique black lacquered bamboo and wood box from Cambodia circa 1950 or earlier. This part of a collection I acquired almost 20 years ago. Khmer lacquer is quite rare, not many crafts survived the Khmer Rouge era, and is a lost art. Some wear and restoration as to be expected but no major damage. D: 5cm/7.8in and H: 10.5cm/4.1in.

Alabaster Shan Buddha circa 18th century. This has been left out in the sun and rain for the past 15years so the surface has begun to degrade (a good lesson in the Buddhist principle of Anicca ~ the impermanence of all things). The head has been reattached. The base is hollow- the only example I have ever seen with this. H: 27cm/10.6in and W: 11cm/4.2in.

54 old coconut disc shaped beads, mala. I acquired these beads in 1991 in the Barkhor Market in front of the Jokhang Temple in Lhasa. 18th to early 19th century Japanese sword fuchi (bordering piece between the sword guard and the handle) with gilded relief design of playful shishi (Buddhist lion), all on finely punched ground texture called nanako, which means “fish-eggs” as it resembles fine rows of caviar.
