Baby's ceremonial kimono made of asa whose warp and weft are hand-plied. It looks choma (ramie) than taima (hemp), however it is not proven till it is looked by a microscope. Child's or baby's kimono was recycled from adult's and so did this one. It has some stains. The folded seam in the body is unseamed. The second half of the 19th century. 96cm x 115cm

Neolithic/Bronze Age reddish clay, pottery jar from an unknown culture. I acquired this in a group of Chinese Neolithic pottery pieces but I can’t find any references to this being Chinese. I tend to think this from Thailand or some other Southeast Asian culture. Low fired with very good near invisible restoration. If you know what this is, drop me a line and let me know. However, to our knowledge no such items have ever been found associated with crossbow bolts. These particular pieces went over the ends of the wooden ribs in large parasols. Soba choko were originally used for small morsels of food much like the mukozuke is used in today's Japanese place setting...

Decorated in nishiki-de style with a combination of underglaze blue, gilding and gilt outlined enamels typical of the late Mid Edo period c.1750-80. The central mikomi incorporating auspicious peonies painted in underglaze blue with two eliptical reserves containing a beached boat and elements of a landscape. Framed by a band containing two partially obscured dragons chasing flaming pearls...

An Arita serving bowl, namasu, of moulded simplified lotus form partially celadon glazed with a ko sometsuke style Sansui landscape in the well of the bowl framed by enamelled Chestnut branches outlined in gilt. The reverse plain and the interior of the foot-ring clear glazed. The bowl is typical of the output of the Higuchi kiln in the Nangawara valley which specialised in combing celadon and clear glazes...

Relics of the Nile is pleased to present this Egyptian green faience amulet of a standing deity. The figure stands erect with the traditional pose featuring the hands at the side. The back is supported by a full dorsal pillar and features a completely intact suspension hole. The figure is worn, but is likely of the standing god Horus, in falcon form. The lower portion of the figure has been lost as well, however the amulet still measures a splendid 1" in height...

Bronze ring dating from 8-6th century BC made in Northern Italy by Villanovian culture named from a typical settlement discovered in 1853 at Villanova, near Bologna. Wonderful artifact with rich green patina, in excellent shape for a 2700 year old object. The piece comes from the Koutalakis collection. Can actually be worn as ring - the inner diameter is 15.5 mm, which corresponds to ring size 4.
