This tea pot is inscribed with Chinese characters on one side, and has a bamboo motif incised on the opposite side. The handle and spout are sculpted to represent knotty tree limbs, and the lid is carved with leaves and stems. The maker's seal is impressed on the interior of the lid. It is in good condition and was acquired from my grandmother's antique shop in the mid 1960s.

Enamelled copper dish. Decor, in the center, of a palace scene painted in enamels of the "Famille Rose", surrounded by a deep Sèvres blue on which Chinese emblems stand out in gold and in silver armfuls of flowers which have lost their shine, silver having oxidized over the centuries...

This is a genuine, archaic Chinese nephrite axe or Gui scepter. The surface has the expected smooth, "waxy" feel to it. The end is sharpened (which leads me to think it was made as a prestige axe as opposed to a scepter, although the literature seems to view pieces such as this one as either/both an axe and a Gui scepter; e.g. Rawson in Chinese Jade - I've included photos of the pieces listed there for reference)...

An intricately painted 19th Century or earlier Tibetan thangka featuring a wrathful black diety. It is loaded with imagery that depicts several intense scenes from floating skeletons to animals and humans being trampled. This antique thangka was used and has been consecrated or blessed. In good condition, it measures 24 inches high x 21".

DESCRIPTION: Silver needle cases first appeared in China in the 1700's. Elaborate embroidery has a long tradition in China, and young girls began intensive training in needlework skills by age seven. Given the importance of embroidery in her life, a silver needle case was often presented to a girl as part of her dowry.

Interesting stem cup, with well potted flared sides raised on a tall conical stem foot, richly applied inside and out with a dark brown glaze. Late 19c Chinese Blackwood or possibly Zitan wood brush pot in the classic style with smooth sides and a raised ring at mouth and bottom having 3 low standing low profile feet with drain hole in center bottom of pot. Carved from a single piece of wood, it still retains its original plug which is easily removed for drainage. In excellent condition commensurate with age, it measures 4-5/8" high x 4-1/8" diameter.

This is a magnificent greyware vase or hu from ancient China. It dates to at least the Han period (209 BC- 220 AD) but is likely from the Warring States period (circa 500 BC). There are soil encrustations and remnants of root fibers on the surface. There are no signs of repair or restoration. There are taotie handles scultped in the clay to mimic ritual bronze vessels of the same period. This was done because often bronze was too expensive so likenesses were made out of pottery...

This is a beautifully carved nephrite jade ring whose exterior is encircled by a sinuous dragon. The interior diameter is one-inch (1"); exterior diameter is 1-3/4" at the widest point. This is a rare example of a Puddingstone, not only because of its form, but also, because of the color, shape, and texture of the particles that make up the stone.

Chinese qingbai porcelain bowl, egg shell thin body with pale celadon crackle glaze. The well of the bowl incised with two swimming fish over waves, the edges slightly lobed, the rim left in buff. The exterior body is ribbed down to the short foot, and the base of the foot slightly recessed and left in buff.

This is fine example of a white nephrite jade Thumb Archer's Ring, with a Taotie theme: symbols and figures carved in high relief all around the surface of the ring. It was apparently used to some extent because it shows a few very small impact scars on its edges, as well a hairline crack on its outside surface, but it is in solid condition, with well defined carved symbols . Other similar examples date to the Chinese Qing period.

This is a nice small southern Song dynasty (1127-1279) qingpai funerary grain storage house. It stands on a slightly short footrim with a recess base. The outer ring of the footrim is shaved inward.
